topic Do you have a vision board? in Staying well

Hello everyone, well I had dinner with a friend last night and she stumped with this out of the blue question; do you have a vision board? Now, I took my time to answer because I had an idea that 'vision boards' were those new agey things where you put up pictures of things you'd like and it's supposed to magically make them happen, I don't believe in that kind of thing. So I played a bit dumb and asked her what she meant, and we ended up having this discussion about goals and plans.

Where do see yourself going in life, what are your goals, dreams, etc. And you know, I don't actually have any grand plans. I used to. When I was younger, I had years of things planned out, and when I look back on those times they were the unhappiest of my life. Now that I'm living for no more than what's happening this week, this evening, tomorrow, I am far more content.

And yet the conversation left me feeling as if somehow I am off track with others. What do yout hink? Is it necessary to be working towards some big goal in life, or is striving for everyday happiness and contentment enough?

Dear Jess

You know in my opinion, you don't write on here enough. Just my opinion, cause I really enjoy reading your posts & also your wonderful replies that you give to others. That's a small digression to my reply to this thread, which is an absolute ripper.

I think we're in the same boat with regard to this. I've had it asked of me many times - not only in work (but predominately at work) but also occasionally in social/home life as well. "Where do you see yourself in 5 years, 10 years??"

That (or those kinds of questions) pushes the depression button within me - almost like when you're wanting a lift to come faster, so you just hammer that button over and over!

For the most part, I'm struggling with life AS IS, right now. But that's not so much of an answer as really just the truth. And at the same time, you can't say, "Well, I'd like to be living on the coast with $10M in my bank courtesy of a Powerball win. Some days I might go fishing, some days I might play golf and other times I might just do something else (I was supposed to insert funny comment here, but I reached deep within me, and came up empty - sad sigh)."

But yes, so I'm striving to live for now and each day - and that's also been a cause of not quite arguments with my partner, but at least disagreements in living styles. Whereas, I would see something and if I really want it, I'd move heaven and earth to buy it - and be blowed the cost. I mean, we might not be here tomorrow. Whereas, she's a bit more 'stayed' in her approach and kind of sees the longer term products - I guess that's how we balance things out ok.

But Jess, I don't think you're off track at all - in fact, on this particular website, I reckon for the most part, a lot of responses will be of people coming to sit in our boat - in fact, better make it a ship, as it could get quite crowded.

Neil

While there are material things I want, on some level, there less physical things I want more. A place of my own, just me and my cats. A simple job to go out and do some of the week. Cooking my own meals, watching the tv shows I like. Playing songs and singing out loud to them. Putting one so g one repeat because I like it a d just singing it over and over.

What I want is stability, consistency, Peace of mind and time to heal my broken heart.

GA you've hit the nail on the head. Stability and consistency. Maybe that's boring for some, but it's my idea of heaven.

Neil, thank you for your kind words. I am one of those people who pushes the lift button and the ones at pedestrian crossings, and when people look at me I actually tell them that it does make it come faster!

I believe it will change with time. In time I will want thenew and exciting again, I will want to travel and share my life with someone. But I can't think of that until I have a stable ground to work from and I haven't acheived that yet.

Its like doing a handstand on the edge of a crumbling cliff, you know? You want to be able to stand without falling first.
