hi HopefulHazza, good on you and I think all of us have to get back to what we have learnt at some point in time especially if we feel the need, so take it as a refresher.

We never stop learning during our life. Geoff.

Hi everyone, just sharing my ‘emotional roller-coaster ride after making a decision to quit the cigarettes ‘cold turkey’ 7 days ago now..

Physically I’m feeling great, but mentally and emotionally it’s a huge never-ending roller-coaster ride ...from deep sadness to despair and depresion ....I’m thinking what’s coming up now is what I was trying to cover up when I smoked..? ...

‘can anyone relate to this and offer any wisdom ....cheers

hello HopefulHazza, welcome to the site, and yes you make a very good point, as the same applies to someone who drinks alcohol, both are used to help people try and forget their problems, it happens all the time.
Well done for going cold turkey, sometimes it <G class="gr_ gr_12 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del" id="12" data-gr-id="12">maybe</G> your best option but understand your fear that there are these problems, they probably have been there for a long time and <G class="gr_ gr_19 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="19" data-gr-id="19">everytime</G> they came to mind you had to light up a cigarette only pushing them away again and again.
I was the same with alcohol, now I only drink socially, but I used it to hide my problems, but eventually these problems need to be addressed, but this means you have to cope with two issues, smoking and these concerns, sounds to be pretty hard, well you've stopped for 7 days, a great achievement, and something you have decided to do, an enormous decision but one that will help you, and because you have the strength to do this then you have the strength to go to your doctors and book an appointment.
They will give you all the help you need, referring you to a psychologist on a mental health plan, which entitles you to 10 free sessions.
Because you have come this far don't let the past caught up with you, you need to talk about it and try to accept or resolve these issues, so you are able to move forward. Geoff.

Hi Geoff and thanks for your wisdom and support..I’m still nicotine free and still on the roller-coaster...I resonate with what you’re suggesting and pretty convinced now that the Smoking was just a mask of my feelings... as I know that my Feelings are just energised Thoughts ...MY thoughts ...and my physical body reacts to what my Mind is Thinking...and I know my MIND is just like everyone’s Mind..it just does one thing...Creates Thoughts ...

having followed the 12 Step Pathway of Recovery in Alcoholics Anonymous for the past 17 yrs....I think I will now talk with my Sponsor and Re-new Steps 6&7 ...

thanks again H

Hi Hazza, just noticed this thread its been a little while since you posted it.I just thought <G class="gr_ gr_80 gr-alert gr_tiny gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="80" data-gr-id="80">i</G> would share my experience with quit smoking. I quit almost two years ago cold turkey on the spur of the moment. I had been smoking for over thirty years the last five of them <G class="gr_ gr_323 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="323" data-gr-id="323">chain smoking</G> over 70 smokes a day. Good news is now <G class="gr_ gr_475 gr-alert gr_tiny gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="475" data-gr-id="475">i</G> hate cigarettes with a <G class="gr_ gr_468 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="468" data-gr-id="468">vengence</G>. <G class="gr_ gr_575 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="575" data-gr-id="575">Hopefully</G> your cravings have all gone away by now.
