I havent realy seen anything on here about mood affecting peoples eating habbits.

When Im up I dont eat, when I'm very irritable and angry I eat EVERYTHING!!!!! and when I'm depressed I loose my appetite also.

I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed a change in this?

Cheers, Cas

Hi feralcas, welcome

I would say that my eating "binging" has stabilised since being on mood stabilisers. I would assume that this medication is responsible.

That's all I can say.

Hi FeralCas,

When my anxiety is bad I can eat the entire contents of the house (and supermarket). Biscuits and chips are my favourite. I have been a binge eater since my teens (am now 48). Would love input from others as how it can be managed.

Unfortunetely ive found gaining weight and increased appetite is because of the medication im on but i need to stay on it for the time being. It is a mood stabiliser but also an anti pychotic and that can cause this problem. Im going to start weaning off my current medication and start on somthing new. Hopefully i wont want to eat the house down with these ones lol. x

I binge eat in response to anxiety / stress in the workplace. It also doesn't help that my office is right next door to the kitchen where there are always social club chocolates and packets of chips on offer as well as birthday cakes and other similar rubbish. It's just all too tempting.

My binge eating has increased exponentially in reponse to increasing anxiety / stress in the past week since i learnt that my project has been axed. My eating at the moment is absolutely digusting.

For example today i have eaten 8 small packets of chips or similar, 2 brownies, 3 pieces of chocolate cake and 4 cookies - absolutely disgusting and its not uncommon for me to do this.

But dispite this i've actually lost weight in the last week due to increased stress. Thankfully i'm also obsessed with exercise so that helps to keep my weight in check. But binge eating like this makes me feel absolutely disgusted and guilty and i don't even get any enjoyment out of it.

Regards

ignoP

I used to work under a cafe and it was not goodt!!! It's the shame that's the worst, can u find healthy treats to make and bring to work? I used to make date amd cocoa balls and omg so tastey and good for you, and when I went to the gym it didn't feel like a punishment? And homemade chips with a dehydrator? Sweet Potato is low gi so more filling and very yummy as chips?

Aw hope angel my fella does the same, he won't buy junk cos I will inhale them!!!! I hope things ease up soon!!

I really appreciate the feed back, I'm experiencing a high and ate one piece of toast and a lamb shishkabab over thet weekend tthats all, oh and a spoon of ice cream. I have only eaten one slice of pear today, hopefully I can eat these 500gram steaks om cooking, I feel like I have to hid my lack of appetite from my bloke.

Hey Cas,

Thank you for your reply and suggestions and i can certainly relate to you. I have tried healthy alternatives and sometimes i am successful and i can go for weeks without touching junk. But then during times of high stress anxiety kicks in and healthy options just doesn't cut it - it's chips and chocolate that i want and i become this ravenous, glutenous binge eating pig and yeah the shame and guilt is awful.

I watched a documentory on the ABC recently about sugar addiction and how it is a drug that stimulates the same reward area of the brain as cocaine and the impact that it is having and the high prevalence of obesity because of it.

In another article i read that binge eating is accepted as an eating disorder and it is the most common of the eating disorders but is the least recognised and diagnosed of the eating disorders.

In the latest National Geographic magazine there is an aticle about the obesity epidemic in the USA and how fast food companies are targeting those in low socio-economic areas.

For example The Bronx in New York is considered to be a grocery store desert - it is cluttered with fast food outlets selling cheap rubbish in quantity and it is extremely difficult to find a grocery store selling healthy food which is more expensive anyway. As a result there is a high prevalence of obesity, malnourishment and diabetes etc and a health system that is difficult for these people to access.

It could be said that the situation is similar here in Australia - you would be hard presssed to find a maccas, kfc and hungary jacks in a high affluent area!

Anyway i think i'm getting off track here so i'll leave it at that. Today has been a good day for me so far.

Best wishes

Dave

P.S. Cas i like your profile picture, very interesting - what does it represent?
