Of all the things I've given myself recently, such as sobriety, quitting smoking and losing weight, the thing I most appreciate is the gift of running. Being able to hit the road on a whim and clear my mind. The freedom to travel when and where I want. Being alone and one with the landscape. The pain on pulling up only serving to remind me of the pleasure I've experienced. I love running.

Morning R-Bob,

Firstly welcome. I know you've been around a couple of days now, but I havent introduced myself to you before. As you love running, there is another thread that I would encourage you to check out. "Walking Shoes - Walking Group" I think I have that right. Its located in the same area as where you have posted this one - ie the Staying Well group. Posted by Shelley Anne. There are a number of people there who like to go for walks etc. Or any other exercise for that matter. We could all use a bit of livening up I reckon, so you would be very welcome to come and join us. Perhaps see you there. Love to hear more about some of your runs...

dear R-Bob, to achieve what you have done is really an accomplishment, drinking and smoking, two of the worst addications to stop, and something to be very proud of doing.
I wonder whether you are able to get all the congratulations from a partner or spouse, and if so, it would definitely make you a better person, as well as saving money.
Back when I could I used to love to run with my german shephard running along side of me, but that was many years ago and a lot has passed under the bridge now.
My twin brother still runs, plays tennis as well plays golf, which I am proud of him to be able to do all of this.
Our mind wonders when we are able to run, because we have so much that goes through our thoughts.
I just wonder how you felt 10 years ago. Geoff.

dear R-Bob, thanks for getting back to us, and to answer your question is that I used to be very sport's minded, rowing, rugby, golf every now and then, but now I basically don't do much except for walking 2with my puppie.
I should be swimming a few times a week, but I never seem to find the time, I know that's no excuse, because I should make time. Geoff.

I am under a particularly high level of stress at the moment. My response is to burn it off with exercise but I'm doing so much of that my body isn't having enough time to fully recover. I am starting to hurt. Be careful, Bob.

Exactly, do please be careful Bob! If you do yourself some damage, then you will no longer have the gift of being able to exercise. And even for just a short time, I think that will be very hard for you? I realise its your method of coping, your escape. And with your stress levels currently high, then that is what you are naturally turning to. Something you love doing obviously. But please dont overdo it. Allow your body a recovery phase. Do you play any sport, something other than running and gym work? Perhaps that is an option, to change up the workouts a bit.

Or is there something that you can do about whatever it is that is causing you additional stress right now?
