Still obsessing over dog

I sent a photo of the dog in question to my friend who thinks the dog looks fine. I can't discuss this with the owner as she is very unfriendly. I noticed the dogsnails are very long, so I text her nicely offering toys etc and a nail clipper, she hasn't responded. Thing is, it's all getting too much sometimes. I know there are other dogs who are worse treated. I've complained many times to the Animal Welfare Branch but they assure me that as long as the dog has shelter, is not tethered,food and water it's not against the law. I asked if they physically checked, but they do a drive by and tell me how they know for sure the dog is ok. I can only check over the fence when the owners are out. It eats me up so much that I've lost my appetite, can't get into watching any shows on TV I used to love. Nobody can help

Dear Ts_1962~

Welcome back, I hope the years between have been kind to you.

You said that nobody can help, perhaps you were looking for the wrong thing. I too am a dog lover and am concerned when I see a dog roaming the street, tethered in the sun or otherwise mistreated. Frankly I think you have done everything a person can do, you have tried to talk with the neighbours and you have contacted Animal Welfare who have looked at the premises more than once and have said all is OK

As you have not reported the worst sorts of mistreatment but pointed out long nails it is possible the dog is happy enough, or at least not in distress.

It seems this problem is getting to seriously affect you life, losing you appetite and not being able to watch TV which you normally enjoy. These are important effects and are taking over you life , and the anxiety over this is long term having started years ago.

May I suggest another kind of help. Go and discuss this and the effect it is having on you with a doctor or psychologist. As you say yourself it amounts to an obsession and you need to have a better and more enjoyable life without this ruling your life all the time.

It is always good to talk with another animal lover

Dear Ts_1962~

Thanks for coming back and letting me know what you are considering. While counseling might seem to be expensive at times (it can depend on shopping around) it may well be an answer and worth it.

Nobody deserves to spend three or more years with such a worry, and it can get so that life without it can be forgotten and come as a lovely surprise when that weight is lifted.
