Dear Kat510~

I'd like to give you a warm welcome to the Forum. I am glad you are here as you sound all alone.

Although your post does not spell it out I assume your ex was the perpetrator of the domestic violence. If I have made a mistake I apologize.

Such people can be very good at creating a completely false impression, even to the extent of painting themselves as the victim before hte authorities. This may - and I'm guessing - be what he has done with his parents who are giving him gold star support.

At this stage, alone, with kids to look after, all the bills to pay, and legal pressures that can change you life is a shattering time for you, and you could well be right, lawyers do not always understand how domestic violence works and are less likely to fight hard based upon how you related the facts and more prone to 'compromises'.

You may even find it hard to explain things in the clear orderly manner they seem to like.

No doubt by now you have been in touch with 1800RESPECT and had their advice

Can I recommend to try to contact Women's Legal Services, who have a presence in each state, and are very used to these situations. This link is to the national center, and local offices are listed there

Is there anyone to help you and care about you on the home front? A family member or friend perhaps. Just being able to talk can help. They do not have to fix anything, just listen and care.

We are always here for you, so get in contact whenever you would like

Croix
