Dear Kajita,

Welcome to Beyond Blue, and well done for reaching out.

I am sorry to hear that you are struggling to cope with your husband's drinking. It's a sticky spot to be in. But the good news is that help and hope are available, and perhaps the help and support you are looking for could be just around the corner.

I would like to suggest that, if you haven't already, you may want to think about going to Al-anon; Al-anon is a fellowship for those who are affected by the drinking of a friend or family member. There is no requirement to attend a meeting, no dues or fees, and you can turn up to any meeting at any time.

You can find out more about Al-anon at the website; www.al-anon.org.au or you can also call 1300 252 666 and talk to someone who understands; someone who has been where you are now.

I do hope that helps at least a little. Please feel free also to come back here as often as you like. And take care. I'll be thinking of you. xo

Hello Katija, and a warm welcome to the forums.

I too am very sorry for the position you are in, and those who drink only believe the effects of drinking the alcohol only affects them and not those who are close to them.

It's good that he seems to have cut down the days he drinks, however, this doesn't necessarily mean that he may have become a cupboard drinker, which can happen if they are told to stop or at least cut down.

Can I ask you whether he is in denial as this is important for you to <G class="gr_ gr_296 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation multiReplace" id="296" data-gr-id="296">know.</G>

Please get back to us when you're available.

Geoff.
