Hi Geoff, high school was pretty awful to be honest. In regard to ocd my 'best mate' would always bump my desk when i was writing because he knew it flustered me immensely. I also could never keep up with the teacher writing on the board as i had to write so bloody perfectly. So i would miss out on key info.

Hi all, my name is Adam and i am 34 yrs old. Been wanting to post for a while now. I haven't worked now for 10 months due to mental illness. I was recently diagnosed with cptsd and severe dysthymia. I also suffer from ocd and have had a psychogenic often severe stutter since age 9. Between the ages of 8-16 my then stepfather was extremely abusive and aggressive to my mum, myself and my bro and sis. I suffered extreme physical, mental and psychological abuse on a daily basis for 8 yrs. I pretended for 20 years that i was ok even tho i knew i was drowning in severe anxiety and depression. Working is and has always been extremely difficult for me as i am so easily triggered. I have only seeked a psychiatrist a few months ago and i am going to a new one next month. I am going to apply for the dsp when i get a psychiatrist who i am comfortable with and willing to assist me. I have become extremely well educated re the dsp. Thankyou for reading. I am looking to hopefully meet some new friends on here

Hi Adam, deciding to post is one thing but to actually doing it is another thing, simply because you may type out a comment, then decide to edit it and then finally delete it, only wishing you had sent it in, but well done for doing so.

I am really sorry for what you have been through and what you have had to cope with, especially struggling with OCD and unfortunately with your stutter through your school years, as I had to try and cope with OCD though my school years and after as well.

20 years to pretend is far too long for you to suffer from, but certainly pleased you are seeking help from a psychiatrist and I wonder whether you have thought about seeing a psychologist as well.

Has your doctor offered you a mental health plan, which entitles you to 10 Medicare paid sessions per <G class="gr_ gr_90 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation multiReplace" id="90" data-gr-id="90">year.</G>

Hope to hear back from you.

Geoff.

Thanks for your support Geoff. In regard to seeing a psychologist i definately would be open to it. My gp knows i am seeing a 2nd psychiatrist next month. How did your ocd affect your school life mate?

Hi <G class="gr_ gr_7 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="7" data-gr-id="7">Goodlistener</G>, thanks for getting back to me.

By school life, I had learned how to hide my OCD because I had been teased several times before, whereas my twin 'didn't bat an eyelid'.

The best way I could control this illness was by playing sport, rowing, football/rugby because these involved a team, single sports like golf, tennis didn't allow me this freedom, but I still played them.

Can I ask you the same <G class="gr_ gr_137 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation multiReplace" id="137" data-gr-id="137">question.</G>

Best wishes.

Hi Adam and warm welcome to our forums
You've made a great step in starting your own thread. Well done. Being diagnosed with complex PTSD and severe dysthymia can be frightening. People here are caring and supportive. So you've found a good place to chat and meet friendly people.
Even with cPTSD and depression you have been able to work in the past. That's really good and maybe you want to get back there once you recover? I understand what you mean about being easily triggered in the work setting. It was a struggle throughout my work life. When I look back now, I wonder how I ever did it.

Talking with someone has always helped me through my most difficult times. Is there anyone in your life you have you can talk to, e.g. your mum or siblings? Or is that too hard?

Kind regards

PamelaR
