hello.

i am new at telling people about these kinds of things. i haven't got properly diagnosed and i don't exactly want to. i have gone through depression before and it's happened again, it's not easy to deal with alot of the time so i try to block it out so it doesn't interfere with my personal life. it's been going on for the last few months to a year and it's still difficult and i feel like it's getting worse, for lack of a better term, the thing is i actually have a hard time trusting new people when it comes to talking about things like this and i would like to know if anyone has any tips as to how i could feel better without really going to other people.

thank you.

Hi there TH

Welcome to Beyond Blue and thanx for coming here and providing your post. And from what you've mentioned in your post, I'd also like to say "well done and congrats" on doing that. Cause I know for a lot of posters, it can be a daunting thing to come here and post away about things that are personal - and it's a great thing to be able to do and a really positive step forward. A good sign.

Dealing with depression is horrible. Living with it is horrible. Doing both of those on your own is nigh on impossible, but if that's the road you're wishing to travel down, we will be here to support you 100% and offer as good advice as we possibly can.

Normally I would be trying to get someone in your situation to at least see a GP. And seeing as I've mentioned it, I'll just let you know that on this site, Beyond Blue have a list of GP's that can be searched for. The thing with these guys is that they are all fully qualified in dealing with depression and mental health issues. So it wouldn't be like going to any old Doctor who might roll their eyes and write you a script for something and get you out of the door real quick. These GP's take in everything that's said and are then best able to refer you and advise you from however the appointment goes. Just thought I'd mention that.

As Sea n' Sky said, communication is a key point. So the more you can come back here and write about certain things, the more we may be able to help you.

But as for tips - are you currently working? And if so, is the job ok and do you have mates/friends there? Do you have family members who you get along with and do things with?

Sporting activities/hobbies/interests?? Those can be key things and beneficial things, especially aspects regarding physical activity. Keeping active and to the point of fitness exercise can be a huge benefit when it comes to mental health.

Any other activities you enjoy and like to do?

I do know however that when in the grips of bad depression, even your most enjoyed interests/hobbies can be slammed to the bottom of the pile because depressive feelings overtake and control and you don't even want to do things that you enjoy.

Anyway, I've rambled on enough.

We'd love to hear back from you soon.

Neil
