Everyone returns to being dependant one day, never feel shame for when this day comes. Maybe for you the circumstance feels different, maybe a bit too early, maybe not in the way you expected it to come. But we live in community for a reason sir/madame, there will always be someone willing and wanting to help you. The best way to not feel like a burden to be happy whilst everything is going on. How can one feel down when they are consistently greeted with a smile. I know its easier said than done, and perhaps this is your main challenge in life now. But I know when it comes time to take care of my dad, as long as he is happy to see me, I will be happy to see him, regardless of whatever state he is in. You got this and I believe in you.

Bon Courage,
C

Hi, welcome

No matter what your illness/disability is, there comes a time in everyones life when it all comes crashing down.

I'm 70yo and have a mate thats 76yo. Unlike me he led a healthy life, no illnesses, never been hospitalised. By last year he was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and it has devastating to him. No matter what I say to motivate him eg there is a saying "I felt sorry for having no shoes until I saw a man with no feet" it makes no difference and I believe its because he hasnt had to carry out the ritual I have in leaping over those health hurdles.

So the secret as you will is acceptance. Easier said than accomplished but a beginning is good.

Here is a post on the topic-

https://forums.beyondblue.org.au/t5/staying-well/acceptance-is-this-our-biggest-challenge/td-p/147694

The second technique to make life smoother is distraction. It's an amazing tool when you realise its power. A simple walk around the block can be inspiring. Look out for bees, birds, clouds... old ladies needing a chat etc. Every walk I do it's different.

https://forums.beyondblue.org.au/t5/staying-well/depression-distraction-and-variety/td-p/275790

I dont know your gender but the mens club can be helpful, even for a cuppa.

Recently with knee and DVT troubles I gravitated to using a cane. I feel so old lol, But I can walk. Remaining positive will assist you in a mental sense.

https://forums.beyondblue.org.au/t5/staying-well/30-minutes-can-change-your-life/td-p/154525

You are most welcome to reply as we didnt get all of your post.

TonyWK
