Title says it all really

Feel obsessed over my ex. We were together just over 2 years. Broke up March 2019. 6 weeks later she was in a new relationship. I'm still recovering from it. Just can't get past the pain.

Hello Irish J

I havn't been on the site for quite some period of time...over a year....and have been struggling with the significant fallout of a break up I experienced in October 2018.

The degree of the loss and the grief associated with some break ups can't be understated and in my case it has been an ongoing struggle to find my feet again.

I have walked and walked and listened to podcasts. I am thankful that I have a five day a week job that keeps me involved with people and kids. I have literally forced myself onwards.

After numerous counselling sessions it has been recommended again that I take medication to help me move forward. I was reluctant to do this. However despite my very best efforts to try and come to grips with the reality of things I have finally accepted that maybe medication will help. I have been taking the prescribed medication now for three weeks. I am not feeling the benefit at this point but they say to give it at least 6 weeks. Through the year I have seen three different counsellors and I think this last one seems to be a good fit but I still struggle with obsessive thoughts.

I am writing this at 3.30am which reveals my troubled mind and the recurrent thoughts of my ex. He also moved on very quickly with a lady who is 10 years younger and lives around the corner from my house. I often see them driving past or at the local supermarket which re-ignites the torment.

I wish you all the best. Please know that there are many who do understand the degree of your pain. It is good that you have reached out. Please also seek further help from wherever you can. A GP can refer you to a psychologist under a mental health care plan. If the first one doesn't help, keep going until you find one for you.

Be kind to yourself. You are worth it.
