Hello Hiddenight, can I welcome you to the forums.

Labelling adds to some of our deepest problems we have to face because they seem to stick with us, it's no different than being called an alcoholic and even when you're not anymore it's always how people look at you, but there is always a problem it becomes stressful for you, and for what you are being labelled with, I'm so sorry.

The trouble is that over time your personality could change which may not be recognised by those who cast these labels.

Wouldn't it be nice to be viewed by others in a different way and not labelled and for the two of you to be on equal ground, however, when they do label you they seem to be above you in the pecking order.

What they don't realise is that they don't look at themselves and believe they maybe going through exactly the same but won't admit to it.

We shouldn’t judge others and just focus on ourselves because we maybe going therapy something which they don't know about, and personally wouldn't tell them about because if you it's only more ammunition for them yo know about.

I used to self medicate with alcohol while I was drepressed, now only socially drink, but I'm still labelled as someone who drinks.

Take care.

Geoff.

Hi Hiddenight.

Welcome to BB Forum. You've come to right place for support + encouragement by many who have had to face the identical stigma + discrimination of mental health. We're here to help you to overcome any fears + encourage to strengthen you to make you feel a Whole Person.

I also have complex BPD for many years + do fully understand what you're dealing with. The intensity of that feeling can make you feel like an outsider + it really hurts.

This labelling + being judged by others can have an adverse affect on you If You Allow it.

With the help of a good GP, Psychiatrist with meds along with a good Psychologist who can teach you DBT - designed especially for those such as yourself + others who have complex BPD.

In the meantime, the BB forum can help you feel like a Normal Human Being as We All Are in Our Own Unique Way.

Having BPD has been no picnic for me especially when others don't understand it. I've personally found that on my initial diagnosis, I told many of my friends + then realized that they have absolutely no concept of where I was coming from. Then the "labelling" + "judging" started.. It affected me severely to be left out in the cold so to speak..

After being treated like an alien from another planet, I made up my mind never to tell anyone again. It was for my protection. The psycs always suggest to let family + friends know yet little do they know the devastating affect it had on me. They haven't got the problem so they don't get judged or hurt.

The majority of those who work in the mental field have No idea what's it's like to be discriminated. They think they do yet in reality they don't.

Rcently, there was a documentary on tv about those who has bpd + the psychs debating that it's best to tell others about bpd. Was very interesting as most of those who suffered from bpd were MORE DISCRIMINATED when they told others about it than those who DIDN'T tell others. Most psychs sitting there didn't have a clue the devastating affect it had. It's ok for them to study but they also need to find out what's really like to be on the receiving end... which they don't.

That's where a very good psychologist comes into play with DBT or mindfulness.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Take care

Warmest Regards

Thank you for those whole replied to my post. I really didn't think anyone would bother. I feel judged from the medical profession, as soon as they find out i have BPD they change their attitude towards me. Im finding it very hard to find professional support. I feel very alone and lost.
