Hey,

I’m here because I think I may be close to rock bottom and literally have no idea how to get back up again. I feel like nothing I have tried has worked, in fact that things have gotten worse the more I have tried to address my depression and now increasing bouts of anxiety.

I don’t know exactly when all this started but I suspect it’s been 15 years or more.

I think the trigger points for me have been having been diagnosed with cancer at age 28 (I am now fully recovered), my father dying of a heart attack when I was 33, last year age 38 losing my job and now in the last couple weeks my wife leaving (citing my depression as one of the reasons).

I think there are other things like feeling that I have made poor career choices that are now holding me back that niggle away. These seem to be becoming worse.

It can’t go on like this so today I am going to take it more seriously. I’m interested in any tips, that can help. I feel like there is nothing in my mind or life that doesn’t need massive amounts of work. No idea where to start 😞

Hello Barnard

I am glad you are here and welcome to the forum family. It takes a lot of courage to post and good you!

I understand you Barnard as I have lost more than one girlfriend has left me due to my anxiety/depression and it hurts.....a lot

I am in my 50's and have had depression and some serious anxiety for a long time.....I understand where you are coming from Barnard and its a dark place to be in for sure. I now have the monthly support of my GP who I can talk to...he is a legend

You are strong! There are many tips that can help. Just my humble opinion if thats okay Barnard.....I hope you book a double appointment with your GP and have a good vent (talk) about how you are feeling. I failed to do this back in the 1980's to my regret. The GP's have a better training where depression/anxiety is concerned compared to 30 years ago

You have everything to gain and nothing to lose by booking a double appointment and putting your feelings on the table....I have been wrong many times Barnard but I am sure that you will find some relief

The forums are a safe and non judgemental place for you too. There are many super gentle people that can be here for you.....no worries at all 🙂

To answer your question Barnard....1st Tip......GP. You will walk out feeling better. If you have any questions you are more than welcome to post as many times as wish and ask

Good on you for having the strength to reach out and being a part of the forums...I really hope you can post back

My kind thoughts

Paul
