Hi Sadie23,

Welcome to our forums, and thank you so much for your openness. I'm sorry to hear about your experience with uncontrollable crying.

Just know that there's no shame in crying, it's a natural bodily response. It's a sign of strength, and it shows that you're comfortable expressing your emotions. The body also releases "feel good" hormones when we cry, so you may even find that you feel slightly better afterwards.

I can see that others have asked this, but what do you believe the main cause of your uncontrollable crying is? Sometimes finding the cause of your emotions can help you understand and manage them better.

I found that I was crying a lot towards the beginning of the pandemic, mostly at night. I would generally let it happen and just allowed myself to experience whatever emotions needed to be expressed at the time. I find that even forcing a smile when you're feeling upset can boost your mood ever so slightly. While this advice offers more temporary relief, this relief can be so impactful.

I hope this advice is somewhat helpful for you. Please continue having a chat to us here, we're here to listen and support you.

All the best, SB

Hi

I have had depression on and off for years but recently I have been crying all the time for no apparent reason. Crying uncontrollably is not something I have experienced before and I haven't got any skills that make it stop. Any ideas?

Sadie

i have had crying uncontrollably in the past and while there wasn’t an obvious reason when I wrote down what happened in 24 hrs before hand I would often see a trigger even if it was obscure or remote.
writing did what happened before the crying helped me plus just going with the tears because when I tried to stop it just made it worse.

Not sure if that helps.

Also sometimes there may not be a reason you can see but by crying it can help you clear your mind and maybe see things clearer afterwards.

Hello Dear Sadie23,

I am sorry that you have been crying all the time, I have had and still sometimes do cry uncontrollably...mostly if I do as Quirky has said, I can find a trigger most times...other times I have no idea why the tears started.....

It’s okay to cry Lovely Sadie, I think that crying is, in a way, a way that our soul releases some built up hurt....and releases that hurt through tears....

I like lighting some scented candles and just watch that little fire flame dance gently around...

Do you have something that you like to do that can help you feel a little less sad?...

Talk here anytime,

My kindest thoughts dear Sadie,

Grandy..

Very sorry to hear it. Crying, while mostly beneficial can often be distressing. It is your mind and body’s way of releasing tension and stress.

Does anything in particular act as a trigger? Certain thoughts, a photo or picture, a song or music?

If your tears are uncontrollable, this might be grief. Just because you might not have lost a person close to you, you can still grieve the loss of say, a job, a certain event, a memory, a time from your past when things seemed easier.

I encourage you to reach out to somebody about how you’ve been feeling. A GP, psychologist, even a close friend. How long have you been taking anti depressants? If they don’t seem to be working perhaps not enough time has elapsed for them to kick in? Most common ones take a couple of months.

Take care 🙂
