Lyddie I have been in and out f that many jobs there seems t be a revolving door when I arrive. Many times the companies were downsizing, bankrupt, going off shore. I got fed up with the rejection of not getting work. To help me through these dark times I would do voluntary work. The main job I did with in this was the State Emergency Service. So I was helping the community as a hole, plus I could still be a member when I was working in a payed job. This is not for everyone, but it fitted me well. I know my dark places when I don't work, so I fill my time helping others. It also gives you a social outlet and sometimes someone may hear of a job you are looking for and tell you about it. I have got several jobs that way, or helped others get jobs like that.

Hi, I wasn't exactly sure where to post this, but I hope this is the right section.

I have been struggling quite badly with Depression and Anxiety for a while now due to being unemployed for a long time, and constantly feel like a failure and embarrassment. I also lost my Dad to Cancer this year, and have been trying to deal with it, but feel so much guilt and regret. Stress has been affecting my sleep, and I'm just in a pretty dark place at the moment.

I have been trying to find a light at the end of the tunnel, and trying to get further in life, but life is very bleak at the moment.I would love some advice on how others deal with Depression and Anxiety, or what people do to feel better. I have recently tried Yoga, and that had been helpful for a while, but that stress always returns.

Thank-you for taking time to read this, And I'm sorry if it's hard to make sense of. ❤️

Hello Lyddie

Good on you for having the strength to post in such a difficult time and thankyou

If I can offer my condolences for the tragic loss of your Dad. I understand your pain as my dad passed last November and it is an awful period to be going through.....There are no words for what you are going through

If I may say that your Dad would be very proud of you for having the guts to post here...seriously

Your post makes perfect sense Lyddie. I have had chronic anxiety followed by depression since 1983 and it is a dark place to be.

Just my take on what works if thats okay with you..

* Super Regular counseling..(I was a dill and saw a counselor every 3 months...it didnt work)..Fortnightly/Weekly

* Your GP can be your best friend right now

You are not alone here....You and I have the same grieving process happening not to mention the Depression and Anxiety too.

Just for your info I still see my GP every 4 weeks for a fine tune....

There are many gentle people on the forums that can be here for you Lyddie

I am not pro meds but I take a small tiny anti anxiety med when I need to. This is my 21st year on AD's and have worked well in my career as a result of having a crackerjack GP.

Can I ask if you have a couple of people that you can lean on (support network) in this awful time?

Please be 'gentle' to yourself

Paul

Thank-you for the response kanga_brumby, I have Volunteered for an organisation in the past and I found that quite enjoyable. You're right, it's definitely a good social outlet. Thanks again for the reply

Thank-you also for the response and kind words blondguy. I have a small number of people I can turn to, I just find it hard to open up and talk about things. I think some of my grief is still processing. Thanks again for the response 🙂
