Hi everyone. First time poster so Hai.

Im gonna get straight to it. Ive been battling pretty strong depression and anxiety for a couple of years now. The biggest concern I have is how much this is impacting my job. I also have a fair amount of debt.

I have a good job that pays very well the problem is I haven't been for the last 2 weeks and I'm only new at this place. My depression has hit me so hard I can barely get out of bed. I feel like a husk of a person. I've started a new medication thanks to my GP whom I know well and trust. But it's taking a while to kick in and I'm not functioning in the mean time.

Im scared I'll lose my job and wind up with a stack of debt that can't be paid. I'll lose my car etc. My new employer is a bit miffed. I've tried to be as transparent as I can to keep them on side but I don't know how long it can last.

Thanks

Tim.

Hi Tim,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for sharing your story. I certainly understand the stress and pressure that you feel... my work performance is being seriously impacted by my mental health state right now and it creates a whole new level of stress when you think of the possible financial repercussions.

It sounds like you are on the right path, having sought help from your GP and adjusting your medication. I think it is awesome that you are being transparent with your employer. Are you able to suggest or is it possible that you can do some work from home / work remotely? Perhaps it is a way where you can still contribute to the workplace but in the comfort of your own home whilst you get back on track. Most employers support work / life balance so perhaps it is worthwhile investigating this option.

I wish you every success 🙂

Hey mate. I didn't actually consider if I could do work from home. It is a desk job in IT support and our machines do let us vpn in. Some aspects do require physically being there but perhaps I could work something out.

This stuff is all so damned frustrating.

Thanks for the tip though

Cheers.
