A newbie with an old problem..do I resign from yet another job because Bi.P 2 is getting the better of me?

Hi there I'm Milliana.. currently on unpaid leave after 5 weeks of sick/annual leave to sort my head out. Have an awesome job in broadcasting that I used to love..worked so hard to get where I am, an now on the brink of throwing it all away because of work anxiety. This is a pattern, I've done it before.. walked away feeling ashamed that I couldn't cope in a workplace. I'm medicated and was diagnosed with bipolar 2 about 18 months ago. Trying so hard to get up and running but feeling pushed down by a bad patch. Anyone else been here? Cheers, M

Hi Milliana!!

I have BPD, I took April till September off last year, then mid December till mid feb this year. And took many sick days in between too!! And was ready to chuck my career away too

I learnt a valuable lesson, that I was just as bad mentally whilst being away from work. I forced myself back 8 weeks ago, and am now working all my shifts plus overtime and I'm the healthier for it

Try and stick it out, stay positive and don't give up

Thanks heaps Azbox, it gave me a real lift to see your reply and to know someone else has had this experience. I'm starting to wonder if putting work off is the right thing to do, I have the chance to go back on Thursday but the thought of it makes my tummy turn over, nauseous at the idea of walking back in and feeling so overwhelmed I'll burst out crying. How did my passion for this job turn so distinctly into something I dread? I feel burnt out. Your advice has given me food for thought though... baby steps I guess. Thanks again buddy. X

Anytime, you're not alone.

You're also probably a lot stronger then you think you are.

Im not sure what type of relationship you have with your boss, but being open and honest about what's happening can open up doors to help you ease back into work, so that it's not so overwhelming

Think about your options, you'll know what's best for you

I'm afraid he's part of the problem! But I'm surrounded by good people there so that's positive. I'll keep weighing up my feelings til Thursday. Cheers Az 🙂
