Hey CW,

Absolutely, i believe many people do this, it shows you are strong willied and are determined.

It's fantastic that you are doing this though later down the track you will realize how much of an impact it has made...

I myself do this, when i just feel like nothing and cant be bothered with life i always think yo myself and say.. " I am stronger than this" - "I am going to prove them all wrong" - "This is what i want, i want to achieve and succeed"

The person or solution to what helps a person get better is themselves, You make the biggest changes in your life you are in control and no one can stop or prevent you from what you want.

Just always remember to do what you want, keep pushing forward and let nothing or no one stand in the way of your happiness because you deserve it!!

So good work and keep going- stay strong!!

So the last couple of days have been down days after about a week or so of feeling great.

I find myself fighting off tears and telling myself I can do this, I can beat it and I am strong. Sometimes I just try and psych myself up in my head, other times I say literally it out loud to my boyfriend! "I'm going to beat this, I'm going to because I want to."

I was wondering if anyone else does this? Does anyone else talk themselves into going out of the house or into not just slumping on the couch and giving up? And if so, what do you say? What gets you moving?

Like you Chicken, I often say to myself 'I can beat this'. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and when it doesn't I say 'This too will pass'. And I wait, and eventually it does.

For me a really important thing is to recognise when it is lifting, and seize that. That's a really good time to say 'I can beat this' and to push myself a little, because I know I sometimes find the down mood compelling, almost seductive, it's very easy to be drawn back to it.

I describe the feeling of when it starts to lift as 'surfacing' because it's like glimpsing the light at the top from the bottom of the ocean. If I stay down there I'll drown. There's another thing I sometimes say related to that - have you seen Finding Nemo? My favourite character in that is Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres). Her catchphrase is 'just keep swimming, just keep swimming'. I like that.

Hi CW

Saying it out loud is awesome. It really means that you ‘mean business’ and are going to fight it.

Saying it to yourself, or just within your mind is equally awesome. It also means that you are going to confront this illness, as opposed to as you say, perhaps slumping on the couch and letting it overcome you.

Having said that, there are times when that is about all we can do – the old couch slump thing; at those times, I don’t even have the will to flick the tv remote; it stays off and I just lie there, almost brain dead. It then takes some effort to prize myself off the couch, but after a time I will do this.

The ‘Dory’ comment is a good one – ‘just keep swimming, swim swim swimming’. Or just keep moving or walking or whatever it is you are able to do.

Hey CW

I'm so sorry, just have a good cry, and let it all out. That is what I do. Sometimes I then think of one thing, that I could do for a person that I love. And this thing would be something that they really like. It is sort of allowing love to push you. Even if you don't feel loving. And it takes your eyes of how you feel. This often works for me, maybe it would work for you too.

And the ' Dory' motivation comment or tune is indeed a good one, I use that to push myself when out walking. 'Just keep walking, just keep walking ' is what I sing to myself.

So maybe you could say, or sing........ 'I can beat this, I can beat this' or 'Just keep loving, just keep loving'. Or something like like.

And I so much love that grin that dog has with all its teeth showing in your image. So thankyou for helping me to smile.

With many, many hugs to you

Shelley xxx
