Once in a blue moon I realise that I am real, feel real and feel alive and literally have a lot of free space in my head.

The last two times it lasted 10-15 minutes, depends how much I try to keep the feeling in my head. But after 15 minutes the feeling is almost completely invisible to me and I can barely remember how I felt in that period.

I experienced this scenario 3-4 times over 3 years. The first time was when I arrived home from an operation on my abdominal region, where I realised that I am depressed and worrying too much in life. I saw a physciatrist and was diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression, where I am currently still visiting and on prescribed SSRI.

As anyone felt like this, and is this even a real feeling or am I cooked?

You are not cooked in any way....

You have got on here and spoke your mind.....that is Strength...nice1 Everyone here worries to much but....you shouldnt see this or what your therapist said as bad news.....its not....it does go away....seriously...I have the same happening...

You are a legend (yes..seriously...) for seeing your psych....and if I may ask you....Do you have a GP that you are comfortable with?

I know and am close to many people that have this anxiety and depression.....This forum is very very private 20MG....How are feeling now?

Hi 20...i think I can relate to what you're saying. I sometimes get this weird reality, where I say to myself, oh my god I'm real, this is my life, or my child......it doesn't last long, then I detach again. I'm not sure if that's what you mean.

As for being "cooked" as Paul, The Blonde Guy said...no you're not cooked. There are so many people experiencing anxiety and depression, yet we feel so alone and isolated, which is the nature of the beast, it likes to get you alone. Please reach out for help from people whom you feel comfortable with. Sometimes just coming here and typing a post can help, or responding to someone else in need, it's cathartic. Take care 20...Lou

dear 20mg, please don't worry yourself, because once we learn to begin our journey back to feeling so much better, it
doesn't happen straight away, nor does it happen automatically, however you maybe lucky it happens this way, but what
does happen is that it comes to us in stages, but then we tend to lose it again, but then suddenly it comes back to us so
we are feeling great all of a sudden, but it's something which we can never predict.
We never know how long this journey will be and certainly no one could possibly tell you how long it will be, that's
impossible to say, but what you have to look at is that once you start having these brief moments of enjoyment, then
that's positive start.
Please remember that if or when you fall backwards it is heart breaking and makes you despondent, but what you have to
take into account is that you have had the feeling of being so much better, so it's there for you to look forward to
when it returns.
Just let it happen because there is no way you can force it upon you again, but with the help and assistance from those
around you and your psychiatrist plus the medication it will come and go. Geoff.

Hi 20mg,

No, I really don't believe you're "cooked". I think most of us have short periods where we either don't feel real or all of a sudden life feels too real. I frequently experience episodes where for around 5-10 minutes everything feels too real; at other times I feel everything is surreal - as though I'm in a world where everything seems unreal and skewed.

I have spoken with my psychiatrist about these feelings and he has assured me it is part of my mood disorder. I've had anxiety and depression since childhood and have been in treatment since 1995. Last year I was finally diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder which can cause its own form of little mental blips.

When I first began therapy, I became acutely aware of these odd, short-term feelings and my anxiety would escalate. I often experience them in therapy sessions and my psychiatrist tells me just to breathe deeply and sit with it till it stops, which does work. I do remember how distressed I would become when I first became aware of these short bursts of feelings.

I understand also that these feelings can be a part of an anxiety disorder.

Have you mentioned these feelings to your psychiatrist? If not, then I think it would be a good idea if you did. He/she may explain the situation in much the same way as my psychiatrist did. Whatever way your therapist approaches it, it's always reassuring to hear from a professional that you're not "cooked" 🙂

We would all be interested to know how things go for you over the next few days or weeks. Don't hesitate to make contact here; that's the idea of these forums - to give some guidance and much support whenever one of us needs it.

Stay in touch, if you can.

Best wishes

lh

Thanks Paul, yeah I guess we just have to stay positive, strong, and believe in our selves. At the end of the day anxiety and depression is an illness, so it's not really how we think it is, we are just able to exaggerate the situation more than others.

I am good thanks, hope your doing well 😉

Hi 20mgs,

Thanks so much for your kind words. Yes, being diagnosed with BPD last year came as a huge shock, but I was finally able to make sense of certain issues I'd had throughout my life.

I like to think people like us are gifted - we have the gift of knowledge from dealing with and surviving our own battles, to provide real comfort and compassion to others who are also suffering.

Hey 20mg

I know what you mean! I get that feeling too, after being depressed and dissociated for so long I sometimes have moments where I feel suddenly 'normal' again. Like I'm back in reality and not spaced out or confused like I usually am. It's a surreal experience, but it gives me hope because I think maybe there's a chance I can feel positively about my life again, that I'll start accepting my life instead of constantly dreaming of being somewhere else.

Perhaps you feel differently, but I wanted to let you know you're not alone in having moments like that.

Hey, but good luck with your journey, and it's nice meeting you. 🙂

You are very kind for responding....and thankyou

Everyone is different, even though its just my humble opinion....I still treat the anxiety & depression as a physical problem.....which in fact it is....being chemically based. I just 'keep finding it boring' (as much as I can of course)

Really appreciate your input here 20mg.....you are an asset on here....(many people read this forum but dont have the strength to post)....anything you have to say here is valued
