Hi Rupes79,

I'm sorry to hear you've been going through this. Something that may help if you can't remember what it feels like to feel good....building some habits. Do you remember the things that use to bring you joy? Maybe your favourite food or a good movie? A walk? I know they don't bring joy at the moment, but if you can get in the habit of doing this once a week or once a day. Over time these can start to make you feel better (even if it takes weeks) and you may start to experience a little joy again....I know this may seem silly but maybe worth a shot if you are feeling at a loss.

Always here for a chat,

Hi Folks

What are your tips when you’ve been in a state of depression long enough you can’t remember what it felt like beforehand and despondent enough to feel like you’ll never emerge form it?

Hi Rupes79,

Don't know if I have any good tips right now, as I'm in a deep hole myself. Well coming here helps a little bit, replying to your post certainly takes my mind off my own little pot of misery, and makes me feel I'm doing something of value with my time right now.

But I think I know what you mean. I don't know if you go through self-doubt as well, as to if it's really depression, or if it's just weakness, laziness, bad habit, and indulgence? I do.

I want to say watch a good movie, find a catchy playlist, eat yummy food etc etc, but I know the trouble is when you're in this mode none of these things appeal to you, and it's extremely hard to 'pick up' and 'enjoy the little things'. And I'm not going to suggest that you have a drink either...laughing out loud?..

If you have people you can reach out to, bounce ideas off, exchange memes? That could help a little bit I think. But I know I'm here because somehow I've ended up in this utter loneliness, that I seem to have created myself.

If you have anything or anyone that you need to be responsible for? That'll work a lot of the time, like if you have to get up and do things, cooking cleaning shopping, or get that email sent.

But I know you can do all of these things and the minute you stop dark clouds roll back over your head.

Just the thought of lying down on the beach and feel the sun on your skin makes me a little bit hopeful and looking forward to that moment when we're able to do it. So 4 more weeks from now?

I think this is it, pinpoint something small and entirely achievable in the near future, that you absolutely look forward to, should help reminding you what it felt like beforehand, and that you might emerge from it one day, even just for a period of time?

Just hang in there in the meantime, and take care of yourself xx
