Hi I'm Alastair 26 yo. Father of 3

I'm here today as I've been suffering depression for a long time now. I've never bothered to do anything about it but I'm fed up feeling sad all the time. The last 12 months havent really been peachy I split up with the kids mother last year after a 7 year stint. We were always behind with money and money was always what input my sadness down to but now things are a lot better financially and I'm living with 2 good friends. I'm always feeling disappointed and I always see the negative in anything . when family or friends try and have a conversation with me I just want them to shut up and leave me alone. I will even go as far to hide from them so I don't have to have a conversation.

I hate being like this and I'm ready for a change

Hi there Alastair

Welcome to Beyond Blue and thank you for coming and providing your post.

Let me also say Congrats to you - for making the first step in your journey to battle this awful illness. Coming here and providing your post is a very big step.

You will also find very quickly that you are not alone - and that can be a comfort in knowing this - also sad that there's so many of us, but here, we have a great site; where people can be given advice, experiences and above all else, support.

With change and progress forward, it really needs to be taken to the next level - and I'm talking about seeing a GP to get a diagnosis and possible referrals for psyches/counselling. Also possible medication as well. But let your GP determine this first of all.

If you're unsure about a GP, on this site, Beyond Blue have a list of GP's that can be searched for - hopefully you'll find one or more in your local area. The thing with these GP's is that they are all skilled in dealing with mental health issues - and from that they would be best suited to see what your next positive steps might be.

Again, it's great that you've come here Alastair, and I do hope you can come back and respond again.

Kind regards

Neil
