Phobia of alcohol and boyfriend drinking

My boyfriend drinks and we are 18 so of course he drinks a bit. He grew up in a place where drinking is normal but for me I’m terrified. I have. Full phobia of alcohol to the point where this weekend I am going up for his birthday and he is going to drink and I don’t know if I will even be able to sleep next to him in the same bed after he drinks because I know he has. It’s not me worried about him cheating or anything I’m just so afraid of alcohol.
He is not a bad drunk at all so it’s not like he is bad or aggressive but I hate it and don’t know how to over come it. We have spoken about it and it’s not like he drinks often but the thought of at all is scary

I'd like to give youu a warm welcome here and guess you have a more than ordinary fear of drink. I'm not a doctor so little about the subject. I don't drink much at all but am quite happy for others to do so in moderation unless they become antisocial.

Do you happen to know of any particular reason why you would feel this way?

In fact as a schoolboy in France wine was very much an acceptable drink - the water from the tap was not usable and water to drink came in bottles. It seemed a normal part of life and few people drank to excess.

I suspect your fears are stronger than they need to be and may have unfortunate consequences if you try to insist others do not drink, or avoid them because they do.

May I suggest you see your doctor in an extended consultation and explain the depth of your fears. It may be that these can be eased with some therapy by a clinician who specializes in phobias.
