Hi Jenren

I feel so much for you as you face such overwhelming and challenging times. While there can be so many different reasons for our overwhelm, it only takes one really good reason or revelation that can lead us to take much needed time out. From my own experience (as a 55yo gal who's just resigned from her job for some time out), feeling the need or push to go 'next level' is a perfectly good reason for a break.

Raising ourself to a new level of self understanding, self development, self care/love, personal progress and more can take time. Depending on our needs, the question becomes 'Do I need to manage that full time or can I do it part time or casually?'. Another very important question is 'Can I afford to do that full time?'. If the money is there to be able to take a break and still pay the bills, then I believe the money's being well invested because the return is all about growth. I'd say the most important thing to remember is don't waste time. I say this from personal experience, as I've taken time off before to be able to manage growing demands outside of paid employment. While I managed to achieve a lot during that time out, I also wasted time and ended up really kicking myself for it. While taking a week or two off to begin with (to settle down from a sense of overwhelm) is not a waste of time, developing the habit of often doing next to nothing is. It can leave us wishing we had have done something more constructive to make a difference (which can end up becoming depressing if we're not careful).

100% agree with trying_my_best, having systems in place is key. Systems and strategies help create structure. While I face a time in my life where my entire structure feels like it's collapsing, I realise this is because it's time to rebuild from the foundations up. The question can be 'What systems and strategies do I need to have in place in order to make the build successful?'.

A support network, which includes some experienced 'master builders' who can help us form a more structured life

Someone who can help us better understand and manage our emotions and nervous system

When it comes to a strong sense of self love/care, a strong sense of intuition, a strong sense of confidence and self trust etc etc, a system that helps us 'come to our senses' more can really help

A system that helps us shift beliefs in constructive ways is also key

A system that helps us with time management and/or financial management is another key

and the list goes on. Having a collection of keys to that structure is so important. Wish someone had told me there are keys to life from the beginning. No wonder we struggle to unlock so much in life at times, including our full potential.❤️

Hi Community,

Reaching out because I am currently in a very bad way. I have had to leave a new job because I was just feeling so overwhelmed and useless. My moods go up and down all the time and I feel like a failure. I am terrified of being unemployed but also feel like I need to take some time out to heal. I am currently on anti depressants which aren't working but am in the process of lowering the dose so my GP can try SSRI medication. I have not been eating properly and struggle to shower or get off the couch. I guess I am just wanting some reassurance that it is okay to take time to heal and strategies to assist with getting motivated to do the most basic tasks and ways I can try to heal and get out of my own head.

Thanks for reading and appreciate any suggestions.

Hi Jenren!

It sounds like you’re really struggling, but it’s amazing that you have all of these supports in place!

I have ADHD, so I completely understand the struggles with motivation. I’ve found especially in my study and work life the more I am interested in the role/class the more I feel motivated! For example, I started in my current working role because it gave me great exposure to practical experience in my area of study at uni, but now I generally love the role and that is my motivation to keep going even when things are a lot to manage! I also have systems in place for when I am feeling stressed and overwhelmed. I’m curious about what systems you might have in place? For me this looks like keeping my weekends to myself to choose if I feel up to making plans, or taking the time to give myself the care I deserve (eg, if I haven’t washed my hair, I wash it). I’d love to hear what you have in place!

wishing you the best 🫶
