Hello,

I relate to this deeply. For a long time even small tasks felt impossible because I was braced for something to go wrong. The fear of judgement and unexpected confrontation has been very real for me too, especially around social situations and study.

What helped most was accepting that getting back on track doesn't have to look like what everyone else does.

Motivation hasn't always come first for me. Often I've had to act before I felt ready, then let the motivation build from the small wins. Starting with low-stakes steps helped. For me that looked like online study, volunteering in peer support, and building confidence in contained, predictable environments.

The fear of messing things up or being judged is something I am still working on a lot in therapy. One shift that helped was recognising that most people are more focused on themselves than on my mistakes. And when things do go wrong, I try to remind myself that one moment doesn't define the whole effort. Five years into my own healing journey, I still have hard days, but the window between being triggered and recovering has shortened considerably.

Hey Everyone,

I am just wondering how do you find motivation to do anything from the small things to the big things, to the things you are afraid of doing. I want to go out more and get back into the workforce among other things but my social anxiety does my head in. I'm worried about messing things up to people judging me and having to deal with unsuspected confrontation. As I have mentioned in other posts I want to get my life back on track, because I don't want to keep wasting my life away.

How have any of you been able to overcome whatever it is that was holding you back?

Have a good day/night

SleepyRain

Hi there,

Thank you for writing in and sharing your experience. I really relate to this anxiety, particually anxiety tha is based around fear of judgement and confrontation. I have found for myself that rumination and trying to think my way out of an anxiety spiral rarely works. I often just have to throw myself into the task, despite the anxious thoughts and prove to myself that I can still do the things I logically want to do, alongside the anxiety being present. That way you start to build trust confidence in your capabilities.

I hope this helps. Anxiety can feel so debilitating sometimes, I always try and remind myself that it is not something that is a part of me. It is temporary and not mine to keep.

Best wishes,

Daydreamer70.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I guess it is just a matter of me wrapping my head around things and jumping into it and telling myself it's for the better. Even if things don't go my way at least I tried and I can learn from it. I also think I should go back into therapy as it helped me deal with some other stuff in the past.

Have a good day/night

SleepyRain
