SSRI withdrawal and pregnant

Hello

I’m 6 weeks pregnant. When I initially found out, I went to the doctor who advised me to immediately cease my daily dose of an SSRI that I have been on for 15 years to treat anxiety and OCD.

She told me to take half one day, and then completely cease cold Turkey. I was to then start on a different SSRI.

The cold Turkey and withdrawal has broken me. I’m on the other SSRI now daily but have found myself in a depression I’ve never known before.

Just wondering if anyone knows how long it takes for a new SSRI to “kick in” and the withdrawals to stop.

not getting brain zaps anymore but I don’t feel like the same person anymore

Feeling the side effects of stopping and/or swapping medication that we rely on can be so daunting and frustrating? I wonder whether raising these concerns with your GP, psychologist/psychiatrist or another professional can help? They might have some techniques to help improve how you feel or make medical adjustments. Let us know how you go if you like 🙂

Hi Luce1234, welcome.

I'm sorry to hear about all of that, but I would advise seeing a GP or Psychiatrist because we're not professionals here. I'm not too keen about using antidepressants when pregnant, but I guess I wouldn't know. Just keep yourself safe and please, please, seek medical advice, we can't offer medical advice here.

But I can tell you, antidepressants, any type, take about a month to work.

Hi how did everything work out. I’m currently 6 weeks pregnant with my first and I’m currently 3+ weeks into medication withdrawals. I have CPTSP Generalised anxiety disorder and OCD.
coming off the medication has been so rough. I have all the side effects according to my psychiatrist the worst definitely being the brain and body zaps and insomnia. I’ve gone through so many phases of emotion from angry that I wasn’t warned of this before being putting on such a medication to feeling guilty for feeling so terrible when I’ve dreamed of this moment being pregnant. Just wondering how it went for you?
