Hello everyone, first time to the forum and here is a bit about my situation.

- I am 28, single and spend most of my time committed to work. I have prioritised work over relationships, social activities etc for the most part of ten years now. I have never had a long term relationship.

- Over the past few months, I have started worrying about the future on a daily basis, what it may bring, am i actually going to find a relationship, worrying about my parents, family members etc. I constantly feel like life is moving on, the clock is ticking down and i am just stuck watching it.I really struggle making decisions and commitment. This is down to the fear of making the wrong decision, being stuck in a situation etc.

- Most nights I struggle to get a solid nights sleep, either can’t get to sleep, or wake up in the middle of the night.

- More often than not have ‘butterflys in my stomach’ for no apparent reason.

- Very irritable with parents and extended family members, some times don’t even want to see or spend time with them.

- Over the past few months I have become to feel more sad and down, lost interest in work and hanging out with friends.

- I Have never told anyone how I feel. I think this has become worse in the past few months, which may party be down to trying to help a friend who has had really bad depression after a failed marriage. I have put a brave face on and have been his sole confident and shoulder to cry on.

- I have never really given any thought to how I have been feeling up until now, but it definitely seems something isn't right.

- From the limited research I have done, i feel as if i am suffering from a mix of Anxiety and Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD).
I would appreciate anyones input as to my situation and what i should do moving forward.

Thanks

Hi Mitchell

Welcome to the forums

I understand the feelings you are experiencing as I have had the same and they can be awful to have. At 28 you are doing everything you can to live your life! These feelings are very common to have in our 20's...30's. If these feelings begin to have a negative impact on our day to day ability to function at work or in our personal lives we have to see our GP for some assistance

Just from my own experience....self diagnosing may exacerbate our symptoms as there is too much conflicting information available on the internet

I had exactly the same issues at 28 that you do now. You are very proactive with your health Mitchell..Nice1

The forums are a safe and non judgmental place for you (and everyone) to post...There are many gentle people that can be here for you too!

Any questions are always welcome!

my kind thoughts

Paul

Hi Mitch,

I really recommend you speak to your GP and then see a therapist for a fuller assessment.

Are you worried what they might say? Please don't be. It sounds like you are doing well in life, so we know you're not crazy. You just sound like you need a few pointers to manage anxiety.

Good luck!

Hi Mitchell thanks for sharing. From what I read it seems you have devoted alot of your time focusing on work. Have you had a mini break recently. I had a mini career break to better manage my mental health as and it helped me better manage my anxiety. It is natural to feel uncertain about the future. Let's also not forget about covid. Uncertainty is stressful. Maybe it's time for some ME time to reassess what makes you happy.

Hi Mitchell,

Thank you for sharing, I know that it takes a lot of bravery to be so open and honest like you were. I think that's really great.

It definitely sounds like there is a lot on your plate and on your mind at the moment. As someone who has had anxious thoughts, I can fall into ruminative patterns (thinking about things over and over or over-thinking things) which can be very stressful.

As blondguy has mentioned, trying to self-diagnose has made me more stressed as well. The good thing about mental health professionals is that it is their job to help you and diagnose, which means that we can leave it in their hands.

Have you thought about seeing a GP?

Please keep us updated on how you go!

Hi Mitch, welcome.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this, it does sound like anxiety. But I would agree with Ultimate Worrier and others that you see a GP and another professional if possible, to get diagnosed. It can be scary but it can be helpful in order to understand and work towards therapy. You're not alone.

I understand it's scary. Please don't self diagnose yourself or attempt to, I know it can be tempting, but a professional is best diagnosing you.

Please know I'm not trying to push you away, I do care and I'm here for you, I'm just suggesting some friendly advice, as others have here aswell.
