Hi there

Does anyone else experience tingling in their limbs? Not during a panic attack as such but just going about everyday things eg sitting at my desk working, washing dishes, walking etc

I saw my GP but to be honest I felt dismissed - MRI and blood tests all clear

I have had anxiety on an off for many years and am on an SNRI. Thanks

Hi Xenacat,

I’m so sorry for the late reply. Please don’t think it’s a reflection on you at all because it’s not; it sometimes accidentally happens. Sorry about that...

The tingling sensations you’re experiencing sound very nerve racking. I feel it can really sting to feel so dismissed...it’s not a pleasant feeling at all.

I haven’t really personally experienced tingling sensations so I don’t know if I will be of much help...

But I was thinking maybe you might like to consider getting a second opinion from another GP if one is available. I wonder is that perhaps an option for you?

Kindness and warmth,

Yes, and in my face and on my head, every day. I also have really bad dizziness on and off, which has been worse and constant for about 10 days and my tingling has become more noticeable with that.

Woke up yesterday morning with a cold left arm. Tingles and numbness below elbow and into the hand.
Dr thinks it's cubital tunnel syndrome. Heart rate was also spiked all day. Then the numbness and tingles went to my face, scalp, both arms both legs and feet.

Hospital says it's anxiety.
I cannot help but think it's something worse.

Hi

yes this has happened to me.. i was dealing with severe anxiety at the time, I would wake up at 3 am and feel pins and needles on my two little Fingures on each hand.

and when at work my middle fingures would twitch.. I’d also get muscle spasms,

do you get twitches and spasms?

My GP said it was likely carpal tunnel syndrome,

I was not told of the connection it had to anxiety but that does make sense.

i also read an article online that suggests a link between inflamed tissue and anxiety/ depression.

And part of that article suggested they found that anti-inflam meds helped anxiety and depression,

i know I’m stretching the rules about mentioning this so please notebook this was an article I read, I’m no professional on the matter, just relating it to personal experience

Hi Billy.

No I don't really get spasms/ twitches.

Just my hands and elbow and forearms are tingly then numb and my face, neck and scalp are too.

Then my legs and feet to numb and sort of get weakness in my hands and my right lower leg mainly.

Had this once before after my only c section (4th child) and they thought I had peripartum cardiomyopathy (heart failure due to pregnancy and birth) but a follow up echocardiogram later proved that was not the case. That was Sept 2018.

The last few months I had worried about my heart. And being a mum to 4 kids- the normal stresses of life....
I just woke up Thursday morning with a cold left arm then got the tingles and numbness and after I saw my GP that afternoon about it The tingles and numbness progressed everywhere else.

Heart rate spiked but my breathing is normal.

Nothing I can pinpoint as to why I feel anxious.
Like I said perhaps just the normal stuff got to me all of a sudden.

Presented to hospital today and ECG was great. Blood pressure was up 148/80 but they were not concerned.
They checked my reflexes and were positive it's anxiety related.

I just cannot help feel there is something worse. Like a neurological disease or something.

I have a ultrasound on 15th May for my elbow on left arm to check for nerve entrapment.

Went back to my GP after the hospital today and she has now put me on medication she said it is used for anxiety and nerve pain (I don't have pain- just loss of sensation as in numbness) but she said it should help with that too.

Should take a few weeks to kick in.

Hot cold patches, it sent me into a panic, thinking I had ms or another disease which lead me to not eat fir 3 weeks. My legs feel week but they actually aren’t. I’ve seen 2 GP’s physio, Osteo, it’s the somatic nervous system, I’ve been working in calming my nervous system .

Hi,

I experience tingling in my arms and legs and if I sit on the floor for a few minutes I end up with dead legs. It can be caused by a B vitamin deficiency, possibly b6 or b12, maybe others? Good luck getting a doctor to test you for it, unless you happen to have a good doctor. I have just started taking a activated b6 tablet which makes my mind clearer, but even typing this message my fingers are all tingly and numb. So I guess only time will tell?

Hi,

I can relate with you! Drs keep brushing it off as anxiety etc & when I mention I was scared I had MS I was laughed at everytime! & it’s not that easy to get a MRI for peace of mind as it will cost thousands out of pocket so they have to build a case to get a neurologist to see you & have a MRI.. but I did get my dr to do a CT scan on my lower back and she found a pinched nerve which causes tingling, numbness and weakness which explains it but I also feel numbness in my face sometimes which wouldn’t be connected to my lower back. It’s very hard for a dr to take you seriously & I made myself so upset seeing different drs and going to emergency multiple times I wasn’t eating properly I felt suicidal because I was so convinced I have MS - I still have thoughts of MS because of other unexplained symptoms but some would be anxiety definitely & some is that I just haven’t been looking after myself. My advice for you is please don’t overthink it there are a million reasons why you are experiencing these symptoms! Push for your dr to at least do a CT scan etc. it really sucks when you can’t believe what the dr says. It just causes more anxiety.

Hi Xenacat

My heart goes out to you, as you're trying to make some sense of what it is you're feeling.

I know this is going to sound a little weird but working out if the tingling is normal is something worth questioning. For example, does it come with any other feelings/symptoms or does it happen on its own? The reason for using the word 'normal' is based on the idea that people actually look for a buzzing feeling in the hands and feet or all over body in certain practices like yoga, meditation, Tai Chi etc. Based on the concept of being able to feel your own physical energy, typically the hands and feet are the first place you'll feel it (that buzzing sensation). In these practices that buzzing or tingling is considered normal, unless it's accompanied by troublesome issues. As I say, I know this all sounds a little weird.

It's strange to think that we typically don't notice what the energy in our body is doing until we notice what it's doing. In other words, we don't notice that subtle buzz in our body that's happening at a subatomic level, we don't notice our heart beat or rate or our throat muscles and so on until something triggers the whole lot into hyper activity. Then we may feel tingling or buzzing in different parts or our body, we may feel our heart beat intensify and speed up to the point where we can almost hear it (it's so intense) and we may feel our throat muscles tighten, all through the state of intense anxiety/mental and physical hyperactivity.

So, after all that, is what you're feeling energy but you're only noticing it for the first time or is it something more than that? Is there something else going on (an indicator of the body's unease or dis-ease)? The body is definitely a highly intelligent thing, often sending us signals, sometimes trying to get our attention for good reason. Deciphering those signals/that information can definitely be a challenge at times.

I hope you find the answers you're looking for.

🙂

Hi Xenacat

I have since found out that having the tingly sensation up your left leg and arm isn't necessarily a stroke. If you suffer lower back pain like sciatica and neck problems, 9 out of 10 this is the sensation you will have. Of course it is still possible it can be something else thats why symptoms must be brought to the attention of your GP.

They thought i had a TIA, but elimination of symptoms through tests found that my numbness came from a back and neck problem and this brought on anxiety.

Better to go through process of elimination to be sure.

take care

sorry for the late reply haven’t been on here in a while. Did you ever find out what is happening with you? My symptoms are well and truly still here but when I was on anxiety meds it did help part of my problems but I have since stopped taking it because it made me eat a lot put on heaps of weight.. so now I am struggling with it all.. I went and seen a neuro and he said before he even did a in clinic exam that he knows it’s not MS but he’s sending me for a Mri for my peace of mind but I’m still scared they will find something

I was told by a friend with similar anxiety issues (might be an old wives tale?) that this is a psychological symptom of poor breathing from being stressed, or even from sitting in a stressed position / bad posture not allowing normal breathing. The extremeties of our bodies are the first parts to not get pumped as much blood from lower circulation.

It hasn't really bothered me that much as the symptoms that effect me worse; sweating, upset stomach, feeling weak, and even physically fainting could possibly follow, so I think of these lesser symptoms as one potential warning sign and it's time to get some space to myself, and focus on my breating and what I can control.

Note, my symptoms aren't big spasm's or twitches as mentioned above, just noticable numbness in fingers and sometimes feet.... Hope this helps?
