I have recently gone through a lot of tests for other symptoms but these tests were numerous and all over body tests.

Recently following an osteopath visit I am extremely dizzy/light headed/woozy and at the same time and am experiencing very tight neck muscles not painful) and shoulders.

Can tight neck muscles cause light headed/wooziness?

Hey James,

It seems as if your extremely anxious about your heath and could be suffering from health anxiety. Have you been diagnosed with health anxiety or spoken to your GP about your health concerns? You mention you have gotten many tests done. Was this through your GP or a specialist? It is encouraging that you are aware of your feelings and symptoms and that you have sought professional assistance.

Long story short, it is possible for neck muscles to cause light headedness and wooziness. Our neck muscles are extremely fragile, sensitive and often quite week and if you are experiencing neck pain and discomfort, the pain, tightness and the like can definitely radiate up your neck into your head. Do you sleep on your back or how do you sleep? I know that for many people who sleep on their side, they experience significant neck pain and discomfort and suffer from headaches and light headedness as a result.

Your constant anxiety about your health may also provide you with an explanation regarding your light headedness and wooziness. They are extremely common symptoms of someone suffering from health anxiety.

Hope this helps.

Nick.

Hey James,

Don't mention it!

I suffered from extremely health anxiety too and I understand how debilitating and detrimental it can be to your emotional well-being and quality of life. It did however get better for me, so why not for you also? You will feel better and begin to live the life you want to live and the life you deserve to live.

Are you taking medication for your health anxiety and do you see a therapist, psychologist or psychiatrist? Regular, sustained and prolonged treatment is super important so this is something you should consider. Seeing health professionals who specialist in health anxiety is also an option you may consider.

If you would also like to try for a few weeks sleeping on your back to relieve some tension from your neck and see what results this wields might be an option you consider 🙂 It is worth trying anyways in my opinion.

Please keep us posted and look forward to hearing from you again shortly.

Nick.

Hey James,

Good idea. Try that for a few weeks and see if you notice an improvement. It is very scary particular when your suffering from health anxiety but try and reassure yourself as much as possible and trust in your health professionals. Of course, you want to make sure that your healthy and you seem to have had many tests so continue on your medication and possibly look into therapy to assist your genuine concerns.

Hey James,

I've experienced this twice over a period of two years - it's awful. I feel for you so much.

Go to a physio who specialises in head neck jaw and tell them your suffering from dizziness and sore neck. You will be amazed by what a bad neck can cause. I went about a month ago and all she had to do was press down on particular neck muscles and away the dizziness went.

The first time I experienced this I let it take over my life - I went to so many specialists and even had an MRI. I couldn't believe all it took was some pressure on my neck. Definitely give it a go 🙂
