Hello Laus,

That sounds so tough. I’m very glad you reached out here, as I know it can be a big decision.

I’ve experienced the same vomiting issue when very anxious. It got so bad I couldn’t leave my bedroom and eventually would even vomit in there. By far the most useful thing for me was getting professional help. I’m not sure if you’re seeing a psychologist, but you should think about giving it a try. When we have anxiety to an extent where it’s affecting your day today life, we really need proper help to learn about the illness and develop skills that we can use to manage it.

My psychologist has been fundamental in improving this aspect of my life. I still suffer terrible anxiety, but I haven’t vomited from it in 15+ years, so it doesn’t have me in such a tight trap anymore. I’ve learnt lots of skills and also have taken meds that I’ve found to be somewhat helpful. You could talk about this with your GP, who can also give you a Mental Health Care Plan so that you can see a psychologist for free, up to 10 times per year.

Please think about it. You deserve the help that’s out there and not to be alone in this.

Take care,

Hi guys, i have server anxiety and often throw up us a result when i have an attack. The only way to stop it is if i make myself sleep and even sometimes that doesn't work. Does anyone have any tips on trying to ease the anxiety before it even gets to the point of me being sick? Any advice would be great.

Hello Laus!
The best thing I have found for myself is replacing the negative thought patterns with positive ones, being aware of when you are going into 'that' headspace. Reading affirmations, telling your self its going to be okay and try to be in the present. I've found lifestyle change, do you do anything like yoga/meditation? It really helps to calm racing thoughts which generally leads to the physical side effects, this of course comes with practice don't expect the first time for it to magically work.We are redesigning our thought patterns and growing.

Hi Alexlisa,

Thank you for your reply, i have been contemplating seeing someone about it for a very long time but always seem to scare myself out of it. It's to the point now i can't handle feeling this way anymore, it effects my relationships, friendships, even my work life. I'm definitely going to see my GP about this, it's just been hard for me to talk about it and i would have no idea where to begin.

Thanks again.

That’s great that you’re willing to give it a go! Don’t be too worried about not knowing where to start or how to explain your experiences because psychologists are trained to help you find the words and find that clarity over time. It’s a process, so you don’t need to explain everything at the start, you can go at your own pace and they will nudge you along.

Also, don’t forget that they do this everyday, so whatever you tell them is probably not going to be any shock to them. It’s ok to tell your story, however it comes out.

Goodluck. Alexlisa

Hi Laus

Good on you for making the decision to get professional mental health plan from your GP.

The feeling of wanting to vomit is normal part of anxiety among other symptoms so you are not alone. But may I also support what Kyra said about trying to think positive; and as Alexlisa said your Psychologist will help you with it.

We all have our different ways to communicate. So if you feel that you cannot talk to someone are you able to write? Before your first talk with your psychologist try writing down what troubles you and any memories that trigger your symptoms. If you still cannot do that Psychiatric help may be necessary.

In the meantime focus on LOOKING AFTER YOURSELF. Check out the Link below. Great personal care tips. There are many other tips in the STAY WELL section on this forum too.

We are all here for you and let us know how you go.
