Hi Georgia, welcome

I know the insecurities of starting medication. You might not realise it but you are half way their, eg acknowledging you have a problem and getting help. Now its a case of pushing through for at least 6 weeks to see how the meds take effect and ongoing techniques like relaxation and lifestyle changes.

Some are covered here- google

Topic: how I eliminated anxiety- beyondblue

also

Topic: medication is like a whirlpool- beyondblue

Topic: seeking the origins of anxiety- beyondblue

Topic: the balance of your life- beyondblue

Topic: know your limits- beyondblue

Topic: holidays- beyondblue

I hope you hang onto the medication procedure and give it a real go. Yes, it isn't easy but this anxiety thing likely has come home to roost after many years so will take just as long to eliminate.

Hi all I’ve just recently joined here in hoping I can have some comforting reassurance with my anxiety. I have just started medication for the first time to cure my severe anxiety but the first couple of days I’m feeling worse then before.. super bad anxiety and panic attacks and just freaking out.. i know this is apart of starting medication, but what can I do to help take my mind of this and help me push through.. it’s hard, but I know it’ll be worth it! Just looking for some positive support. 😞

Thank you for your feedback! I’m going to keep fighting through it! The first few days I’ve heard are the worst.. I should start feeling better after a week or so! So I’ve just got my mind set on how good I’ll feel once I get rid of this anxiety! Even though it’s hard, I know that I can do this!

Hi Georgia

Good on you for posting!

I understand where you are coming from as I used to have chronic anxiety for a while

As TonyWK mentioned above stick with the meds and you will feel better

The meds are important as they provide a foundation on which we can heal more effectively especially using frequent counseling at the same time 🙂

Great to have you as part of the forum family Georgia

Any questions or thoughts.....you are more than welcome to post back when convenient for you

My Kind thoughts

Hi Paul thanks for your reply! just curious on how long the side effects last for? I’ve been feeling anxious and not being able to sleep for the days.. I’ve been told around 1-2 weeks I’ll feel better.. just hard getting through the first couple of weeks!

hi Georgia, can I welcome you to the site.

Everybody is different when they take medication, person S responds well to medication Z, while someone else doesn't find that it's doing anything so your doctor changes it another type.

Some have side effects while person S doesn't while taking the same medication, the general rule, and I am not a doctor, is about 6 weeks before it starts to work.

While with some people it works straight away, others it may take much longer so your doctor would be able to help you understand why this happens.

The medication will help you halfway, the other half is to get counseling, you need to learn the trigger points and a psychologist will help you find these so that your anxiety will reduce.

Good luck with how you are feeling. Geoff.

Hi Georgia,

I can completely relate to you, i suffer myslef severe anxiety and panic attacks. It started 3 weeks ago and despite reassurance there is nothing i should be anxious About (i have great job, people around me, getting married in few months) I’m so anxious.

Today i Started my medication on very small dose not to experience too much of the side Effects. I take mine in the morning because in afraid it will make me alert at night. And i have insomnia for last 2 weeks.

i wonder if your med has worked for you? Were you able to manage through the side effects? Has that work eventually? How are you coping with every day life, work having insomnia and panic attacks? For me is a living hell.
