Hi,

Having experienced and recovered from anxiety and panic attacks in the past, the one thing that I found most helpful was deep breathing.Try taking long deep breaths into your tummy for a count of 4, and breath out for a count of 6. This will slow your heart rate, stop you from over breathing and eventually help you gain control. Try saying to yourself when breathing out - 'I am safe, I am going to be okay'. Positive talk will also help you to regain control. After all, we are bigger than anxiety.

Dear Anixety1988~

ElleW has given some pretty good advice to deal with those panic attacks, they are frightening and truly horrible. That speeding heart feels like a heart attack.

In addition to the breathing - which makes a big difference both physically and mentally - and thinking you will get though I also found being stubborn and trying to keep on doing something even if I'm not doing it right does help too.

If it happens when I've been tidying the house, for example, then I try to keep tidying. I don't want an out-of-place fright or flight reaction to beat me.

When you take new medication there are a couple of things to bear in mind. The first is there may be a delay before they star to work as intended, and the second is because everyone reacts differently they may not in fact work as expected.

This is why it is most important to be under medical supervision. You will not know what is normal and what to expect.

As a result I'd strongly suggest you talk with you doctor and say what is happening.
