Hey Navy

SubduedBlues & BlackCat90 have really great advice above for you...

I was always anti-meds until my anxiety/depression became that bad I was nearly hospitalised by not taking them

Taking meds for our brain is no different to taking meds for a serious physical illness....like diabetes or heart disease....You have so much to gain and nothing to lose by giving them a chance to help you begin to heal.

I hope you can have regular contact (even a phone call) with your GP. They will always call you back at the end of the day. Ive been on AD's for 21 years and they gave me a solid platform on which I could heal more effectively with regular counseling. I had side effects but they did go away

Vomiting can be a sign of anxiety but its best if you get your GP on the phone and have a chat about your side effects just so you have peace of mind

BlackCat90 mentioned: "With regards to meds not working or being the wrong dosage, give them
time and see how you feel. Check in with your dr regularly and be honest
about whether or not they are working"

You are not alone here Navy where meds are concerned.

Thanks for being here too!

Hi Navy

Whether we take a natural remedy or pharmaceutical remedy, they are all medications in their own right. Antibiotics come from bread mold; a natural occurring event, and yet they are considered a pharmaceutical.

Whatever you take, it may take time trialing different remedies, doses, and/or combination thereof, before the right treatment is found for you. Medications are not always obvious. For example I take something that was intended for angina to keep myself in check (or at least manageable). And about 2-3 days after eating certain foods, consistently and every time I eat them, I become much less manageable for a week or so. Needless to say, I am much more cautious with what I eat now days.

I think you need to pay attention to how your prescriptions are interacting with your diet, vitamins and lifestyle; and relay all this data back to your doc to ensure that whatever treatment regime you settle on, works and continues to work for you.

So this morning was day 1 of medication and within half and hour to and hour i was sick vomiting. Is this normal or is it the anxiety playing up? Can you feel unwell that quickly? or is it not the right one for me?

Hi Navy,

I understand how you feel - I was scared about starting medication too but got to a point where it was unavoidable.

I see it as a necessary evil - something to help me get out of bed each day so I can be part of the world and work on getting better.

Side effects can be revolting though. When I started my meds I had really bad vertigo and my appetite got out of control. Side effects do settle though so give it time.

With regards to meds not working or being the wrong dosage, give them time and see how you feel. Check in with your dr regularly and be honest about whether or not they are working. I wish I had done this on my previous meds as they had not been working for a while but I was in denial!

hope that helps

hello Navy, a question which a lot of people are always asking, that's good because you need to ask so that you can improve and learn, but by taking natural tablets is costing you big money and may not be achieving anything, that's why you should rely on what your doctor advices you.
Your vomiting is a result of your anxiety, I'm sure, so try taking it mixed up with something like ice-cream, but don't go searching for where the pill is, because if you do then you might as well take it by itself.
If you take an antibiotic for an infection, it doesn't make it any better straight away does it, it takes time, just as AD take time, and remember that if you take the anti-biotic on an empty stomach or the other way around you will feel sick, so keep that in mind when you are taking your AD.

The natural tablets are gone. Felt like ive wasted 2 months on them. But thats ok. I fear that i was sick because of anxiety, it was pretty bad that i i was dizzy vomiting and then because i was freaking out started trembling....was really scary and i thought i coukdnt do this for 2 weeks untill they kick in. To make sure doc made me stop it after that day and is doing bloods just to rule everything out and make sure i dont have a bug. And maybe try the tablet again but taking half instead.

I think its just really frustrating because j cant be alone through it all and hate puttibg pressure on my mother especially.

Hello navy The Meds do take time it took me 3 and half weeks to get used to them. Tuff time feeling sick and out of it. I'm on week four and are adjusted to them now. Was struggling for quite a bit, and doubting about sticking, to taking them. Hope all goes well, you did right thing to go back to doctor. Bye for now looking forward from seeing how it all goes.

Yes,

May help to have it at night after diner if it is an anti-depression. tablet. It does happen. Took me many scripts before I found the right one that has only sleepiness as a side affect so I have it at night and go to sleep. Regards PMB

Yes u can, but you have to check with doctor. Some Meds don't mix, with other Meds. I did not have a good sleep, for two weeks. Insomnia is a siderefect from some Meds. Went back to doctors, and got some Meds that help sleep.

Laying in bed at night, could not unwind. Mind overly busy, thinking all kinds of thoughts. Which would cause high anxiety, and feeling very agitated from lack of sleep. It will get better, but at the time was thinking of stopping Meds. But did not, it takes some time, and some poor sleep patterns. Hope u are managing this tuff time as best u can.

For me it took almost three, weeks before I felt able to get up and do things. I had insomnia which proberly didn't help being so tried. And restless trying to sleep which made me so agitated. I thought l would be able to sleep after a week, I was wrong. After two and half weeks I went to doctor to get some Meds to sleep. I did not want the sedative ones because they are addictive. Got one that the body produces, naturally as part of sleep process. I should have went to the doctors after three days, of not sleeping, very much at all. This I think would have helped me get used to my Meds, sooner. The insomnia drove me mad, I thought I was losing my mind, it was very hard to cope.

When they started to work, you will feel it. But I had to get up and do some mindfulness to stop my negative thought patterns, since I had been battling for six months, to the point of exhaustion. I found about mindfulness from other people's threads. I looked it up on the Internet and got a book from the library. This has helped so much. I wake up have breakie, then go for a long walk every day now, which has helped too. I am in such a better way now, but still have a long way to go.

Hi Navy,

Unfortunately there can be many side effects to antidepressant medication and depending on the person, it may take a while to sort out which dose and medication is right.

I'm wondering if you are receiving any other kind of support during this time? You mentioned you go to the Drs, do you have a counsellor, psychologist or anyone else helping with your depression?

As Tufflife has mentioned, there are strategies we can use to help ourselves as well like mindfulness, slow breathing, writing down how we are feeling, cognitive therapy and so on. You may find some of these help you.

Exercise and diet are also important and beneficial. You mentioned you have trouble leaving the house, do you have a dog you can take out walking? Or you could Google exercises you could do at home to help keep you fit and well.

Regarding the excessive sweating that can be normal for people on medication, it may be a new issue with your anxiety as well perhaps. When the unwanted symptoms come, I try to find ways to combat them so they don't feel so bad.

For the excessive sweating, have a change of clothes handy and maybe a hand towel if you want to wipe yourself down before changing. Just tell yourself it is okay, you just need to change clothes and you can go back to sleep. Easier said than done I know. The more I stress over something the worse it becomes.

Hang in there, it does get easier in time.

This site also has a lot of information, check some of that out. You can also use the phone line, email or the Chat Line, the people behind these services are very helpful too.

Cheers to you, hope you have a better day today. A short walk may do you a world of good! I know it helps me!

From Dools
