I have been doing a number of test for food allergies and over the last 2 years and found what triggers my anxiety more.

anything with Gluten in it so now I stay away from gluten

coffee or a stimulant

fresh milk,

I have kept a log and worked with my doctors to prove these do trigger my anxiety at different levels.

Anyone else tried cutting out food which might cause you to be more anxiety at all ?

Hi Brightlight and welcome to the forums.

I have done some research on nutrition and anxiety and the evidence available (journal articles not online magazine type stuff) shows little evidence between eliminating foods from diet to help reduce anxiety. Yes some things have evidence like reducing stimulant foods and alcohol however other than that it is limited. Now in saying this, it doesn't mean it won't work for you. Studies are more broad spectrum. There can be exceptions to the rule. I try limit how much caffeine when my anxiety is on high alert as the stimulant can increase heart rate and make my anxiety worse. Now IBS and anxiety are related. Some foods like limiting some wheat can help.

I try follow a balanced diet and follow the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating

Hi bright welcome to bb HEY guys 🖐

Very good thread

I'm interested hearing replies

Purple good info you gave. Often is the case research changes, sometimes yrs later they do a 360 on stuff not to say this isn't right & diet impacts greatly on our entire body so it wouldn't surprise me if there is a correlation esp as you said re stimulants.

IBS (Irratible bowel syndrome) yeah cause if bowels not working properly can cause depression which imo is linked with anxiety, could be wrong but if so more indicators of good diet ☺

Hi Brightlight

This is a great thread.

As MsPurple mentioned its really up to what works for you best.

I have had chronic anxiety which morphed into depression....all up 30+ years. And yes its a major pain.

Just from what I have researched, anxiety is related to our environment....our upbringing or many other stressful events. Having too much on our plate for a protracted period can be a huge 'trigger' for anxiety to start up....usually combined with several factors even genetics....rarely caused by our dietary habits

Our dietary intake will help us feel a bit better...The answer is not in the 'triggers' or causes but treating the symptoms with super regular counseling.....(a good GP is always a bonus when we need a 'tune up')

IBS....Just a note on this issue...The digestive system is the most sympathetic to anxiety disorder....from the esophagus to the bowels....If we are anxious the digestive system is the first to react....including the resulting IBS...indigestion....heartburn...etc

What doesnt work for me?.....too much Coffee, MSG....from some Chinese restaurants that still think its a good additive...to boost the flavor.

Thanks for the great thread topic Brightlight

My Kindest

Paul
