Hi Tdonuts, People with Depression can make poor decisions and self sabotage it's part of the illness unfortunately. I can say I've done the same, I hold myself responsible to a certain point but I accept myself and realised it will probably happen again having depression and anxiety I'm not in total control of myself. To motivate myself I make a list at night for the next day and try to do as much as I can and if I don't i won't beat myself up about it I've learnt to run my race no one else's.

Hey everyone,

First time posting, thought i'd try this as other methods of supporting haven't been working. I have been working through my anxiety and depression for a year now and I feel like things haven't got better I'm just more aware of how I feel.

The crux of the issue is that I find it really hard to motivate myself, as situations seem so impossible to succeed. I separated from my partner of 3 years due to how unmotivated I was in life. I left my "perfect" job for the same reasons. Back at my Parents house whilst looking for a new house, and feeling the weight of my whole year of failures really squashing me.

My question to all of you is, how to get up and get it all done? I can pin point all my life's issues, but how no energy to push myself to address them - instead I just find the easy way out to avoid feeling pressure. I am on anti-depressants but feel that theres more to the solution than a pill.

Let me know your motivation techniques and any advice you have. I need all that I can get!

Thanks!

HI there Tdonuts

welcome to the forums

i totally understand no motivation!

hmm ideas for motivation- one thing ive tried and did have some success with and i still do is rewards.

so i try to have my day organised, soemtimes it goes to plan others it doesnt but at the end of the day i tried to include a reward of some sort whether it be being able to have some chocolate or desert after dinner- these things i dont do or have often so its a treat for me.

another thing is if you have a hard task to do in the day reward yourself after that rather than at the end of the day.

would this help you at all?
