Hi Molly,

I'm sorry to hear about your severe anxiety, associated chest pain and insomnia. Are you being prescribed the antidepressant medication by your doctor (GP)?

For severe anxiety, relaxation and other alternative techniques are not likely to be enough to bring relief. I suggest you go back to your GP for a referral to a psychologist. Your GP can devise a mental health care plan for you, which will greatly reduce the cost of the psych appointments.

Here are some sites that could be helpful (not a substitute for professional help):

http://www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/resources/infopax.cfm?Info_ID=46
http://www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/resources/infopax.cfm?Info_ID=53
http://www.mindhealthconnect.org.au/

I hope you can get the right help from your GP, which will probably also include a referral.

Best wishes,

Hi all

just after some insight into trying magnesium for my muscle tension and stress.

I have had my 2nd session with a therapist who has provided me with several relaxation cds and a adult colouring book to help with my severe anxiety.

She has suggested I take magnesium powder every day as a aid in helping with my condition. I'm also on the fourth week of my anti depressant medication, low dose being 10mg and nothing has changed. Maybe I need to get the dose upgraded????

I suffer constant chest pain that never lets up. My sleeping pattern is terrible and I worry all the time about my heart. I've tried the relaxation methods and breathing but my body is not taking to these very well.

Im asking if anyone has any other suggestions on other steps I can take in helping my situation as I just want my life back.

Hey Zeal

Thanks for your quick response. My therapist is a psychiatrist. I will be heading back to my GP and see what else he recommends.

I have had tests to do with the heart and all come back normal. Lost my father 5 months ago and the symptoms started roughly 3 weeks after his passing.

Im at a halt as to what I can do in assisting myself in getting better and the right medical advice.

Hi again Molly,

You are very welcome! I'm glad you're going back to your GP. Your tests coming back normal must have been a relief, though anxiety over health can be quite pesky sometimes! I am deeply sorry for the loss of your father. The grief and pain from this will be complicating your anxiety and will likely mean the improvement in your mental health is slower. Would you mind explaining your experience of anxiety? What other symptoms, aside from the chest pain, do you have?

Best wishes,

Hi Zeal

Other symptoms are racing heart constantly, feeling sick to my stomach, no motivation, not eating, loss of a lot of weight, hiding from the world, never want to go too work, body tremors, sweaty hands and hot/cold flushes.

I know it's a lot of issues but I'm finding it hard to deal with them. I was going to the hospital again lastnight due to my severe chest pains and I did go roughly 5 weeks ago AGAIN and ecg plus blood tests are normal.

Im stuck as to what else I can do 😞

Hi Molly,

The lack of motivation and not eating can be symptoms of depression. This doesn't mean you have depression necessarily, but it's worth discussing this with your doctor.

I'm sorry to hear the chest pain was so bad that you needed to go to hospital! Do you live with a partner or family member? Having emotional support from loved ones is very important right now.

When you are overwhelmed and want to talk to someone understanding and knowledgeable, you can give Beyondblue's 24/7 helpline a call on 1300 22 4636.

Is there anything you enjoy, and that doesn't require too much energy, that you could use as a distraction? For example, listening to music or drawing?

Keep talking here on the forum. Others may also reply with their advice and personal experiences 🙂

Hey Tim

I ended up at the hospital this morning as the chest pain got bad. Usual ecg and blood works all come back good.

Just gets so hard now to deal with all the anxiety lately. Doctor at the hospital told me to keep seeing my gp and always attend my psychiatrist appointments.

Doctor also said I'm stressed and Definately have anxiety. It's terrifying and that's why I take myself to the hospital.

Has to be another way somewhere to deal with this 😞

Hi,

i'm sorry for the loss of your father and how you are now feeling. May I ask, were you very close to your father? Was his passing sudden? I think the suggestions you've been given are spot on. You mentioned you are taking magnesium and yes it does help with muscle tension and stress but works better if taken with b group vitamins. Along with what you are doing read up on vitamin b8 also. I feel for you so much experiencing these chest pains and having to go to the hospital. I am so glad that your texts are clear but understand your heSlth anxiety as I have suffered the same. It's a vis ions cycle as the spy toms cause you stress and the stress causes symptoms.

i do hope you are able to find some peace. Exercise is also good for anxiety. I personally do not get much from relaxation CDs but rather need to walk and breathe in the air. I know you have no appetite but when you do eat make sure it's nutritious, no sugar or processed foods. I had blood tests done today to check iron, vitamin d, thyroid unction and my hormones. Has you dr done blood tests? Lack of iron, vitamin and thyroid issues do contribute to anxiety.

i hope this ha seen of done help and you find peace soon.

Hi Molly

Apologies for the late response to your post. I have just read and then re-read your posts and the torment you have been going through with this awful anxiety and how confusing it is physiologically and mentally as well.

You have huge courage to post and good on you! There is some great advice above from Zeal...Tim41 and cmf

I am very sorry about your dad Molly....this was only 5 months ago.....it may have been 5 weeks ago....You have been through a very difficult and tragic period. You may be stronger than you think even though you feel otherwise

Anxiety disorder usually hits people the hardest initially as per my experience...The initial stages of anxiety are severe and scary...even though they are still only (bad) feelings.

I had your symptoms when I was 23 and was scared big time......You have been smart enough to start taking the antidepressants and they do take time to work....They are not a 'total fix' as you know...they do provide us with a platform on which we can heal using the various coping techniques.

Some good news just from my background with severe anxiety Molly...

Anxiety attacks do reduce in severity over time with regular visits to a counselor or even a GP

The more regular your treatment...(weekly is a good target)....the better you will feel

(It took me 6 months of weekly visits to find some peace...just fyi)

Depending on you and your GP, anti anxiety meds can help as a crutch to aid recovery too

The people on the forums are very kind and non judgemental. I hope you can continue to post back with any questions. There is no such thing as a dumb question here 🙂

Please be gentle to yourself

My kindest thoughts for you Molly

Paul

Hi cmf

I was extremely close to my father and his death was sudden, at home of a heart attack. I was in another country on holiday when this happened so wasn't a good start to some relaxation.

3 months ago my mother passed out with a aneurism on the back of her brain also so my anxiety and stress levels are not good at the moment 😞 we are awaiting surgery for her.

My gp did full blood works 3 weeks ago and all that came back from them was my cholesterol a tad high and my liver test was very high. I do not drink alcohol and have not touched fizzy drinks in 3 months now.

Im going to give the exercise a go. Meditation just isn't for me. Will crank up the treadmill and have a walk.

Im a little out of myself today. Very withdrawn and just want to lay on the couch all day. Missed my anti depressant pill yesterday 😕

I shall look into the vitamin b for myself. I'm willing to give everything a try that people suggest.

Hey Paul

Thankyou so much for replying to my thread. All my feelings and what I'm going through right now is all new.

I have actually lost myself. I have not yet properly grieved over the loss of my father and it plays a big part.

I know I can fight this but I'm actually reaching out for help, help from everyone and anyone, regardless who they are, to stand by me in the long haul of me fighting this horrible anxiety.

Everyone is so helpful on the forums. Input is great and the communication is wonderful. I'm just happy to be here, here to help myself and if I can, others too 🙂

Dear Molly,

My goodness to have endured so much in a short period of time is so hard.

I'm glad you have found so much support here and we are all here for you. I'm so proud of you for reaching out to everyone you can for help. You will overcome this. Allow yourself to grieve in your own time. There is no time limit. do you have any idea when your mum may have her surgery?

I do hope you find some peace soon. I am wishing the best for you.

Hi cmf

We are not sure on mums surgery yet as they said within 6 months so touch wood we hear very soon.

Last 5 months have taken a toll on me big time. Will have to have another talk with my gp about my medication and maybe something else to help my process.

Every day is a bad day and the pains just get worse. Going to look at vitamins as well as working 5 nights a week is now a struggle for me and my body.

Hi Molly

You really have a full load right now....especially after what you have been through

I have taken Magnesium before and just started back on them. I still take my AD's everyday since 1996.

Umm...Best B Group complex on the market is Blackmores Executive B. I am not big into supplements but that one does work. Sometimes half price at woolies.

You are more than welcome to post as many times as you wish Molly.

We are all here for you, Paul xo
