Hi C.G. The pain you're in from a pulled muscle must be horrendous. Hopefully with rest and the right medication, the pain will ease and the muscle will settle down. I'm glad you don't have a hernia as they are everlasting. Every so often, if I over-eat, I do suffer slight reflux/indigestion. It doesn't continue long as I recognize the signs and relax. My diet has little spicy content as this causes incredible pain. Are you able to lie down on your back in bed, I couldn't when the hernia was so prevalent. With the severe coughing spasms, do you have anything that helps? It's sad to learn of your mum, but Paul's right about learning how to relax as far as your anxieties go. When we become anxious, it sets off a chain reaction. Have you tried deep breathing exercises, breathe in gently through your nose, breathe slowly through your mouth. Concentrate on your breathing, the steady rhythm of your heart beat.

Hi everyone. Hope everyone is looking after themselves.

I have a question for anyone who has a hiatus hernia. I'm off to my doctors appointment tomorrow for a test to see if I have a hiatus hernia. I seem to have all the symptoms. The reading I've done so far is telling me that the hiatus hernia is great at mimicking the symptoms of Anxiety because it affects the vagus nerve. Any thoughts.?

Hi Cameragirl. I have a hiatus hernia myself. Found out years ago. My symptoms mainly included excessive reflux, severe heart burn. In my case, being o/weight exacerbated the symptoms. I too became anxious/depressed. A suspicion of a hiatus hernia can cause similar anxiety symptoms. I had never heard of hiatus hernia's. At one point I was even examined for suspect duodenal ulcer. I was informed, I'd been born that way. I just about lived on Gaviscon, liquid and tablets till I resembled them. No relief. My Dr eventually sent me for tests which explained why I was so ill. I still have the hernia, but my diet change, plus exercise, plus weight loss has been beneficial. I can't stomach spicy foods, nor excessive eating. I hope this info has been beneficial for you.

Hi Paul.

I introduced myself in the welcome section a few weeks ago.😊 Went to the doctors today and it's a pulled muscle in the wall of my chest. I had anxiety since I was a child ( I'm only now admitting it to myself) My mum has a lung disease and has only a few years left, that's set off my anxiety symptoms again.😭

Hi Lynda.

Those hiatus hernia are horrible things to have. My Doctor thinks it's not a hernia but a pulled muscle in the chest wall from all the coughing I've had. My poor old anxiety has gone through the roof the last few months because of what my mum is going through with her lung disease.

Hi Cameragirl,

I'm glad to hear that your health fears weren't too serious.

It saddens me to learn about your mum's health and I can imagine it's not easy for you. Perhaps it's time to tell the anxiety that you know it's trying to protect you but you have important things to do and you are safe.

Right now It's OK to be sad. The sadness will ease up a bit and you'll be able to celebrate everything you do with your mum. Reminisce about the trouble you got into as a kid, the good times and do things together that you both love to do. No room for anxiety here. I know a lot of the time we can't stop the anxiety starting but keeping in mind that this is your time to be with your mum might just help acknowledge the anxiety and let it release gently.
