Hi LotusGirl

Welcome to the forums, glad you posted and asked for help.

Holding a baby with your arm between the legs is a very normal way to hold an infant. In fact, in some instances, it can be safer this way over the baby cradled by two arms beneath the child. I used to hold my kids (when they were babies) via the same method you are describing; via the crotch, and using my torso as the support against their back. This hold enables me to make use of my other hand to do other things for my child; e.g. hold the bottle or toys or whatever. It is definitely not criminal.

Crotch, by the way, is an American term and for both genders; the British variant is crutch. I think Australia uses the British variant, but only associates the term to females.

I have OCD and I am new to this forum. My OCD is specifically on a harm theme. I held my friend's baby in a new way - it is the outward facing hold where you hold baby between the legs facing them out. I know that a lot of people hold baby's between the legs or via the crotch lol that's even what its called. But I became concerned that its criminal to hold babies this way. The mother said she always holds her daughter like that and was not concerned but my mind is on overdrive. thoughts and helpful comments please.

Hi Lotus girl,

Welcome to the forum!

I also have OCD, but my fears relate to germs, illness and contamination.

If you don't mind me asking, have you received professional help for the OCD before? Are you currently receiving help? If not, I suggest making an appointment with your doctor (GP) for a referral.

An OCD workbook that was recommended to me by a mental health nurse is called The OCD Workbook by Bruce Hyman and Cherry Pedrick. This book is designed for people with any OCD subtype.

It would be great to hear back from you!

Best wishes,
