topic Sporting nerves in Anxiety

This is my first time posting and my first time playing with a team, in over five years. This is due to anxiety.

We have our grand final and im starting to feel the nerves kicking in as i dont want to stuff up and ruin it for my team. I know that if i do i will be out of sport for another lengthy period of time. I am just unsure on how to deal with the nerves for this game on sunday, does anyone have advice or tips on how to manage this nervousness and anxiety. i really want to enjoy this game without overriding negative thoughts which i know will impact my performance.

Hi lostlookingforlove,

sporting anxiety is one I think most people get from time to time before a big game.... The key here is to relax, I know it sounds hard but it's really what will keep the nerves down, find something to do that will take your mind of it. What sport are you playing?

i think the positive to look at here you are apart of a team that is playing in a grand final so that's an achievement in itself, you must be a good player apart of a good team to even make it, so take that as a positive, you need to focus on just trying your best, no one will be angry if you try your best.

My best for you

Hi,

Well first of all congratulations. Many grand finals on this weekend. My son is also playing in a GF. May I ask which sport you play? Totally ok if you don't want to mention it.

Have you tried looking up ideas on how you can use your nerves to your advantage, channel the energy in a positive way? Is there a reason you feel you may ruin it for the team, why you feel this pressure/responsibility? Everyone has a part to play, everyone is responsible. As bballj said, getting to the GF is an achievement in itself.

LLFL

First of all, there is no "I" in team.

Thus is the the "team" that wins, and the "team" that doesn't.

As long as "I do the best that I can today" (not the best that I could ever do, but today), then I have done my part for the team. I do not take blame for not performing as good today, as I did once in a previous match. Last time the ball came from a different direction, a different angle, a different height, a different speed, and the sun wasn't in my eyes.
