Hi

I have recently been diagnosed with anxiety, I have been reading this forum for a few days now and have found it quite helpful but I need help with dealing with some of the affects of anxiety like not sleeping well, health wise I'm good other then not eating much and can't poop (sorry for to much information). I have been under a it of stress because of one of my partners family members which I think set me off in the first place. I have struggled with depression before but I got a lot better once I gave birth to my beautiful son just over a year ago.

It all started last week when I was admitted to hospital over night as I had this terrible feeling of something stuck in my throat, I asked DR GOOGLE and yes I know very well I should NOT have done that, so my partner took me to the emergency room and they admitted me, that night I cried nearly all night after my partner went home as I felt alone and didn't want to be in the room where they put due to my grandfather passing away in a room right down the hall

the next day I had an endoscope put down my throat to see what was there and they also took biopsies of my throat and stomach once I awoke from the sedative they told me they took the biopsies and that scared me even more due to I figured they had found something bad, they discharged me that night and I went home.

I went to my GP a week later like they told me to so she could chase down the results of the biopsies, for that whole week I was a wreck, I would get up and my kids ready for school but get my partner to take them as I wasn't sleeping well, I didn't want to do anything that whole week, when I went to my GP I also asked her to cut out a cyst that was in my back that I didn't need to get removed I only done it cause of everything I read on google about cancer, I also have one on my chest that I am getting her to cut out, which they are called epidermal cyst.

I have been doing ok but having a little trouble on controlling myself from thinking about all the bad things Google said I find myself checking every part of my body for something even a little pain sends me into over drive.

HOW DO I HELP MYSLEF CONTROL THIS please help some tips ons controlling would be great.

BTW my biopsies came back normal there was nothing there, the GP said it was globes sensation which can be caused from anxiety.

Hi Macka90 and welcome to the forums, thank you for sharing your story with us.

Firstly, ALWAYS avoid self diagnosing with Google - most of the time, the results are inaccurate and aren't written by professionals. Well done on seeing your GP, have you mentioned your anxiety? Ask them about any treatments or specialists they can refer you to.

If you haven't already, have a read of the resources under anxiety here on the website. One of the most effective thinking patterns you can learn is being able to recognise when you're having anxious thoughts compared to your usual ones; if you find yourself getting worked up, tell yourself that it's the anxiety talking. Take deep breaths in and out. Distract yourself with something you enjoy.

If you need more advice, don't forget the hotline is always here to listen to you as well 🙂

Hi Crystal

thank you for ur reply,

yes I have asked about treatments and my GP has prescribed me meds to take I haven't started them yet, she has put me on a low dose to start with cause she thinks I can deal with it without meds but I said I would like to try the meds as I have 3 young children I don't want the anxiety to interfere with them. She also mentioned counselling but I am not one to talk to someone I don't know about my issues.

So far this morning I have been ok with controlling my thoughts and not saying "WHAT IF" and last night I actually had a good night sleep I did still wake up early this morning but was able to go back to sleep unlike nights before where I would be up from either 4:30am or 5am. I do still feel the anxiety and just want to go back to my old self.

I will look at the information you have suggested, I think my anxiety will kick in again as of tomorrow as I will be quitting smoking and I'm so very used to lighting up when my thoughts go to bad things to keep my occupied but I am determined to quit and make myself 100% healthy again for my kids and myself.

Hi all

Todaywas an ok today for my anxiety until I went to a baby shower, my anxiety came back big time as everyone was talking about health stuff and that sent me into over drive as I kept thinking "What If" and I was getting very upset as I couldn't really talk to anyone there. On my way home though I managed to talk myself out of the feeling by saying "THERE IS NO POINT IN STRESSING ABOUT SOMETHING THAT ISNT THERE" that helped a bit to calm me down.

it seems when I am alone and have nothing to do to keep me occupied I start thinking about all the bad stuff and I start freaking out and shaking a bit.

I get my meds tomorrow so I'm hoping they will help, I'm just wondering wether I should go to my GP in the morning to see if she will order the 1 test I would like done, which would be a mammogram, I don't see any change in my boobs but for some reason my anxiety is telling me I could have breast cancer and I never thought about that before until I done research on my throat lump "globus sensation"

Please tell me what you think.

Hi Macka90,

Welcome to the forums and thanks for reaching out.

I agree with Crystal - no good will come of Dr Google. It can be inaccurate and incredibly misleading. Even if you can get on to a reputable site, what a Doctor says is 'chest pain' is different to my or your version of what 'chest pain' is. So please, any health concerns straight to your GP.

The good news is that the biopsy is clear and so far from what you've said it sounds as though a lot of your symptoms are being caused by anxiety. I think it's worth trying to understand more about anxiety and what it can do to the body. There is so much that happens in the body that can cause stress-related symptoms including shortness of breath, chest pain, clammyness, muscle aches, nausea, headaches, vomiting. A lot of these symptoms are really bothersome but they are just anxiety.

I really want to encourage you to see a counsellor or psychologist to talk more about it. I know that you mentioned that you're not someone to talk to people who don't know your issues - but that's also us too. We don't know your issues. A counsellor at least can provide so much advice, assistance and tools to help you cope and manage it. Seeing a counsellor is actually not much different to seeing a GP; only you can control what you say so if you go there and feel uncomfortable you aren't going to be forced to talk.

and yes- talking to yourself and challenging those thoughts is incredibly helpful. Try to question why? Where is this thought coming from? What evidence do I have that something is there? and then focusing on things that you enjoy and things that take your mind away from what's going on - like hobbies/interests.

Hope this helps a little! Take care.

Hi thanks for ur reply.

yes I know that you all are people who don't know my issue's but it's not face to face, but I am thinking about talking to someone about it so I can understand more, I have been able to calm myself down a it with my anxiety the last few days, I'm just feeling tired a lot now but I think having 3 kids doesn't help the with tiredness lol.

I do have a lil sleeping issues but nothing major, I just want to be able to have a good nights rest so I can function to full effect next day, I will be seeing my GP tomorrow about it all tomorrow as she wasn't on today. Hopefully she can give me my new mess tomorrow as well to help with the side effects I am having with my anxiety.

Will post tomorrow with the results.

Hi Macka90, I fully understand where you are coming from. I suffer from health anxiety and have so for about 2 years. I have to agree with everyone when I say please don't use dr Google, it may help for a few minutes but the the anxiety comes back

I also suffer from cysts and have had 3 removed. I stressed and panicked about the biopsy results for days waiting for them and guess what??? They came back normal.

I have convinced myself in the past that I've got bowel cancer, stomach cancer, brain rumors, bone cancers, skin cancer, lymphoma ect ect. Turns out I have none of these. That's what anxiety does and I know it sucks.

i speak to someone every couple of weeks about my anxiety and the help and exercises they give me are great. I'm not a big talker either but after the first session it feels great to speak about it.

i hope this helps a bit
