We're looking into an issue with Forums notifications

Hi everyone,

We’ve heard from a few members that they’re not getting notifications when someone replies to a discussion they’re following. Both by email, and in their notification feed online. We understand how challenging this makes engaging in discussions in the community.

We’ve raised this issue with the technology platform that the Beyond Blue Forums runs on so they can investigate and help us resolve this.

If you’ve noticed anything odd with your notifications recently, we’d love to hear from you. Feel free to reply to this post and let us know what’s happening. If you’d prefer to let us know privately you can email us at modsupport@beyondblue.org.au

The more detail you can share (like what kind of notification you were expecting, when it stopped, or what device/browser you’re using), the more it’ll help us identify the exact issue that needs fixing.

I haven’t been receiving notifications on my IPhone or computer (Windows) for over three weeks.

Not much to add there just hasn't been any notifications at all. My settings look ok.

I today received a notification that someone had liked a post of mine but no notification for a reply—all related to the same thread.

Thanks so much for letting us know it’s an issue for you too.

We’re sorry to hear it. We understand how important notifications are to engaging in the community.

We would've replied to your posts sooner, but we’re also experiencing notification issues ourselves and only just saw your messages.

We're still working with the support team from our technology partner to identify the exact technical issue so they can fix it.

We don't have fix for the issue yet but wanted to let you know the issue has been escalated to a more specialised team from our technology partner who will be continuing to identify the exact issue so they can fix it.

Thanks for letting us know the issue has been escalated. However, it’s been a month since your most recent post and a couple of months since the issue first emerged and the issues does not appear to be resolved.

I occasionally receive notifications. For example, I received one today but while scrolling through a thread popped up where I regularly participate for which I didn’t receive a notification.

Thank you for sharing your experience and for your patience. Fixing this issue remains our highest priority.

Right now, the problem is with a specialist team at the technology platform that powers the Forums, and we’re continuing to advocate strongly for it to be resolved as soon as possible. They’re working through a number of complex issues, and we’re doing everything we can to get this one at the top of their list.

While we push for a permanent fix, we’ve also been looking for ways to make it easier for members to see updates to discussions they’ve started or joined. We’ve made some improvements today and will share details here shortly.

Thank you again for letting us know what you’re seeing. It really helps us work toward a solution.

Hi everyone,

We wanted to share some changes we’ve made today to help you stay up to date with discussions you’ve started or joined while we continue working on the notification issue.

We’ve updated the profile page to make it easier to see unread replies from others. There is a bright blue number next to each discussion you have started or replied to. If the number is 1 or more, it means there are replies you haven’t read yet.

As was the case before, this is not visible publicly. Only you can see this on your profile.

We’ve also added a banner at the top of your notifications page that takes you straight to the part of your profile page where you can check these unread replies.

We know notifications are very important for staying connected, and fixing the underlying issue remains our top priority. While our technology partner works on a permanent solution, we hope these changes make it easier to keep track of new replies, stay connected and support each other.

We’ve included some screenshots below to show you where you’ll see these changes.

The first screenshot below is of the “Your follows” section on your profile page. In the example below (and circled in purple) you can see there was 1 reply to this discussion that we hadn’t read.

The second screenshot below is of the banner on your notifications page. By clicking on the “View unread replies” button in the banner you will go straight to the “Your follows” section on your profile page.

Hi everyone,

We’ve made a couple of additional tweaks to member profile pages to help you stay up to date with discussions you’ve started or joined while we continue working on the notification issue.

Here's what's changed:

So your unread replies are easier to spot, in "Your follows" on your profile page, a bright pink badge is now displayed next to discussions that you’ve started or joined that have unread replies. If there are no unread replies for these discussions, a greyed-out badge is now displayed.

Also in "Your follows", discussions you’ve started or joined that have unread replies will now appear together at the top so it’s simpler to review unread posts from others.
