Hey people,

When things feel a bit much, I find myself going back to the same old shows or movies I’ve seen a thousand times. There’s something so grounding about knowing exactly what’s going to happen next.
For me, it’s The Vicar of Dibley or any old nature documentary. They feel like a warm hug for my brain.
What about you? What’s that one show or movie you put on when you just need to switch off and feel safe? No judgments here, if it’s a kids' cartoon or a cheesy 90s rom-com, want to hear it!

Dear new(ish) member~

I do like some of the subjects you have raised and will attempt to explain here, mine is the original 1949 Twelve O'Clock High ,an American war film directed by Henry King and based on the novel of the same name by Sy Bartlett and Beirne Lay Jr.

It stars Gregory Peck as Brig. General Frank Savage. Hugh Marlowe, Gary Merrill, Millard Mitchell, and Dean Jagger also appear in supporting roles.

It is based on a mix of two real characters and while it does have some war scenes concentrates on character and the price war has, particularly on the mental health of the commanders.

It won 2 Academy Awards and was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant"

It was also used as a training film in modes of command by the US armed forces for many years

For me is a familiar reminder of the contrast between my life and theirs, giving me perspective.

Croix

Mudcakes, I love Bluey and watch it too, even though I'm half a century old. I also wish that was my family. I love how everything is turned into fun and the parents join in with the kids in their imaginary world.

Guest_10343, I love your description of certain shows feeling like a warm hug for your brain. That's such a beautiful way to put it. A show that feels like that for me is the first series of Mork and Mindy (I don't think the later series were as good from what I saw). Mork is so delightful and it's so innocent and light-hearted.

Hi everybody,

Neighbours. It has been my staple show to run in the background, show to watch when I don't want to concentrate on much, noise to make me not feel lonely and a show I can put the sleep timer on and fall asleep to it. Quick 20 minutes episodes that roll into the next or I can stop at anytime.

There are 10 seasons available how I watch it and I have seen them all about 4 times now, so can tell you the very best years and the ones that weren't that great. And I got to catch up on all those years I stopped watching or knew sort of bits and pieces of the storylines. It is a shame they wrapped up last year.

It has actually been a great comfort to me. I wish there were more soapies to watch like this.

Yes, slightly ridiculous storylines, but nothing too offensive or political. No real-world events. Just good old fluff in Australian accents living in a court and calling it a street. Christmases are in summer and everyone is wearing shorts. I understand all the slang or lingo. I laugh at the home make overs, and what was fashionable in what year. Reminds me of watching it as a kid and teenager. And recognizing faces who have left and moved onto other projects.

With countless international tv series and ways to watch things now, I still can't find one that does what Neighbours does for me.

Doors24
