Hi just a thought have a new room for Stralia day. We are now one, and the best country going around. shore we have our problems. But we are all working on them, one problem at a time.

Now the B.B.Q. is set up the fridge is in the shed. We have large tables and plenty of chairs. go for it people.

Hey all

Good thread..

Aussie day is big for us because it is the birthday of our youngest family member.Easy to remember because of the public holiday!.

Bought my flag yesterday and will go to the large parade that takes over one of our towns each Aussie Day. The parade has loads of local groups marching and interesting floats too.Always a little fun.

I had written him a letter which I had, for want of better Knowledge,

sent to where I met him down the Lachlan, years ago, He was shearing when I knew him,

so I sent the letter to him, Just ‘on spec’,

addressed as follows, ‘Clancy, of The Overflow’.
And an answer came directed in a writing unexpected,

(And I think the same was written with a thumb-nail dipped in tar)

’Twas his shearing mate who wrote it, and verbatim I will quote it:

‘Clancy’s gone to Queensland droving,

and we don’t know where he are.’

In my wild erratic fancy visions come to me of Clancy

Gone a-droving ‘down the Cooper’ where the Western drovers go;

As the stock are slowly stringing,

Clancy rides behind them singing,

For the drover’s life has pleasures that the townsfolk never know.

And the bush hath friends to meet him,

and their kindly voices greet him.

In the murmur of the breezes and the river on its bars,
And he sees the vision splendid

of the sunlit plains extended,

And at night the wond’rous glory of the everlasting stars.

I am sitting in my dingy little office,

where a stingy Ray of sunlight

struggles feebly down between the houses tall,
And the foetid air and gritty of the dusty, dirty city

Through the open window floating,

spreads its foulness over all

And in place of lowing cattle,

I can hear the fiendish rattle Of the tramways

and the ‘buses making hurry down the street, And

the language uninviting of the gutter children fighting,

Comes fitfully and faintly

through the ceaseless tramp of feet.

And the hurrying people daunt me,

and their pallid faces haunt me

As they shoulder one another

in their rush and nervous haste,

With their eager eyes and greedy,

and their stunted forms and weedy,

For townsfolk have no time to grow,

they have no time to waste.

And I somehow rather fancy

that I’d like to change with Clancy,

Like to take a turn at droving

where the seasons come and go,

While he faced the round eternal

of the cash-book and the journal —

But I doubt he’d suit the office, Clancy, of ‘The Overflow’.

Some they came by by aeroplane,
and some by motor car.

Now before into the concert hall,
They were allowed to look

Each dog had to take off his
You know what and hang it on a hook.

Well when they were all seated there
A dirty little yellow dog began to holler fire.

Well out they rushed in panic
They didn’t stop to look

Each dog he grabbed a you know what
From off the nearest hook

So that’s the reason that you’ll see
When walking down the street

Each dog will stop and swap a smell

With every dog he meets just to see
if it’s his own.

Paulie poor paulie evidently you don't specken the strine cobber. Dead horse translates to sause. Dogs eye is a pie. So me old china plate (mate) fare suck of the save and go for a chunder in the old Pacific. Have a butchers hook ( Look) at strine you may learn as I have. Takes bloody ages to learn or remember.

My dear K man;

I was in tears of laughter reading the Strailya coloquial slang you've dished out. Funny, funny, funny...

Then I had chills reading Clancy of the Overflow...every word took me back to my youth. We had to learn it verbatum at school. Not only that, the words are as true today as they were when it was written. Bloody fabulous...emotive!

Melbournite's helped to forge our coloquial language more than any other city...a great Australian legacy. I've understood most, so thanks for the updates on one's I didn't.

Hmm...what should I bring to the celebrations? How about good ole bread and butter pudding (with raspberry jam on top) and home-made green tomato relish to complement the scorched proteins.

Oh, and thanks Paul! Eye fillet sounds a treat; I'll add lashings of scorched mushrooms and bacon ta boot! Yum!!!

Sara what a bonza bute sheila yous is. If you just brung the bread and butter pud that would be bonza. I will bring the reading material for the dunny out the back. Hope there is no red backs hanging around.

Bloody nora I am having fun with this. Hard to remember all of the slang. As for Clancy of the Overflow. That was mandatory in my time as well. Tried to get another piece in but it was a lot to big. Couldn't condense it and do it justice. 'The man from snowy river.' Oh well Kanga may the aussie Santa be with you.

What a Fair dinkum, bonza, charlie wheela you is Sara. Bluey is a reference to a red head, every one with red hair gets it. I don't know why it the way it is. So don't be a Galah, be true blue, and have a sticky beak at the two pot screamers. Who have a few kangaroos loose in top paddock. Personally I think I'm a few sandwiches short of a picnic some times. The rest of the time just another battler. Trying me best, to get along and have a laugh. Laughter is the best medicine ever, Cheep and few side affects. I learnt to laugh at myself some times a long time ago. Plus one or two others showed me some interesting comedians and things which I have remembered. Now the snow is settling on the roof. I am forgetting some of it. Not all Kanga

Dearest Peter;

In 29 days, something is occurring, so it's a mystery and will stay that way. I get it.

An old sock? You're so much more than this my friend. They're tucked away in the back of the sock drawer never to be used again, or tossed out. This isn't what you are to me or others who support you. It's a sad metaphor Kanga. The jest and joy is going out of your cyber voice; where are you and who are you becoming?

Please lean on me. You don't have to 'tell'. Expressing your emotions and fear can be achieved without getting into details.
