Hello everybody,

It is nearing the most exciting day on the calendar, Eurovision. To celebrate we are going to have our own contest, Blurovision. Your hosts tonight are me the stunningly handsome and humble Gruffudd, and Kazzl who is looking resplendent in a long red sequinned dress and is being kept cool by her husband who is reluctantly waving an enormous feather fan.

It will work like this:

First we need some entries for the finals of this years Blurovision. To enter make a post with the name of your Nation (preferably made up and ridiculous), Submit for us your song title and perhaps some of your lyrics, and describe any costume or dance moves that you feel bring that special bit of character to the performance.
We then need to vote. You may vote early and often if you like and are not required to have submitted a song in the finals. The traditional system of voting for Blurovision is for each nation to give your favourite nation 12 points, the next favourite 10 points, and the third will get 8 points.
Next weekend on the 15th of May, we shall send everyone to the blue room to wave their flags and listen to the mystery interval act (the real Eurovision with commentary from everyone on this thread who feels like it) during which time the adjudicators (me or Kazz) will add up the total score using the most unreliable mental arithmetic possible. It is possible that one of us will host, enter, and win, but unlikely as you are all so talented.

Welcome to Åwkwårdland. The capital is named Geeks-hårbøur and is located on an island in a swamp not far from the western treatment plant at Werribee.

Our entry is called, Astrophysics Pyrotechnics. It fuses techno electronica beats with a classical jazz sound creating a glass shattering and confident sound (sorry about the windows and I don't mean the computer operating system, that is not our fault) The lyrics are simple we have my sister Chemikå screaming "Astrophysics is fun" repeatedly whilst I make little explosions in a test tube whilst riding a unicycle in circles around her. We are both going to wear costumes made of aluminium foil, we have lovely coke bottle glasses and those lolly teeth, there are some red capes to bring out half way for added effect when we change the key of the song to a low and somber note before speeding up again for the crash and burn of the unicycle to finish.

We are hoping for the win with our seriously trendy entry.

Good evening Blurope! 'Not the Real World' calling! Our capital is on a hill with a big flag pole, suspended entirely by hot air. Our Blurovision entry is a cover of the Eurythmics song 'Would I lie to you?', performed by MT and the Snake Oil Salesmen. The Snake Oils are famous in Not The Real World for such hits as 'I rort the law', 'Promises, promises', 'My secret tax haven', and 'I would do anything for re-election'.
They are also known for their edgy complex dance routines - the backflip fandango, the backstabbin' boogie, and, of course, The Hustle.
Blurovision is the dress rehearsal for the Snake Oils' main gig this year, The Only Poll That Matters, on 2 July (tbc). Rumour has it, it might be their farewell performance.
Kaz Fingerscrossed - saying 'vote early, vote often', and signing out from Not the Real World.

What's this?

Australia has been invited to participate in Blurovision. Eurovision 2014 winner, Conchita Wurst, at the Conchita: From Vienna with Love concert with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, held at the iconic Sydney Opera House. According to official broadcaster BBS:

"We have selected Dami as the perfect artist to capture Europe’s attention with her unique personal style and show-stopping voice; an artist who is ready to showcase our musical talent to the world."

Dami is original from South Korea but grew up in Brisbane. She is going to perform for us a song entitled, "the sound of silence"

Good Morning to you all, and three cheers to our hosts the honorable and humorous Gruffudd and the beautiful red dressed Kaz

We are absolutely excited to enter into this years 2016..... Blurovision. This is my friend Bear... and my name is Hug. We are citizens of the tiny yet friendly land of "Connect in the Heart".Our land is well known for those glass jars filled with honey. This year the jars are in the shape of a smile. So if you haven't tried any, well we encourage you to. In fact we will give some away.

The name of our song is "Twinkle Twinkle Little Hug" it is our national song. The first few lines of the lyrics are as follows:

Twinkle twinkle little hug

they will hold you warm and snug....

Sorry we don't actually dance, we are very embarrassed to do that in public. But we have a couple of hand and arm actions, such as "high five". And please look under your seat, wherever you are and you may see our free jar of honey. Yummy yum yum! Please vote for us.

Hmmmm, I see the competition is going to be tough! Pre-polling has the free honey offer from Bear and Hug in the lead. OK, well, bribery is nothing new to MT and the Snake Oils. They promise a tax cut to everyone who votes for them (to be recouped through a GST hike which they have categorically ruled out (snort!).

That's right Kazz, competition is getting tough, but no one can challenge my sister when it comes to that widow shattering clarity of voice. She is such a sweet lady once you get to know her, a bit like our cousin Björk.

It's time for some Blurovision history. In 1972 the winners were from a nation called Compulsion and performed a song entitled, have I left the iron on and burned the house down? They were accompanied by 3 lovely lads in overalls who cleaned the stage several times before, after, and during the performance. Their personalities shone through and everyone loved them so much that they are burned into our collective memories.

We return for a wonderful cover version of, starry starry night, being sung by the space cadets... The lights are out for effect and I can't see what they are wearing or the dance moved but am told that it will all be fine in the morning.

We have a late entry from a group calling itself 'We don't care if you think Australia doesn't belong in Eurovision, you're just jealous because we're going to win!'

A very passionate act this one, been rehearsing for years I believe. They are best known for hits such as 'Anything you can do, we can do better', 'We'll do it our way' and 'We are the (soon-to-be) champions'.

Their dance moves are renowned throughout Australia - such diverse routines as the 'bogan bird-flip', the 'wish we were in Europe latte limbo', and the 'what's Israel doing in there anyway shoulder shrug'.

When not rehearsing for Blurovision, 'You're just jealous' help support Australia take our rightful place in other continents by cheering us on in the soccer Asian Cup (which we won of course). I understand they are also in discussions with the US Republican Party about providing a presidential candidate who is not Donald Trump - a drover's dog I believe.

Their entry for this year's Blurovision is a stirring rendition of 'We are the world (you just don't know it yet)'.

So suck it up Graham Bloody Norton, you biased, bigoted, one-eyed Irish eejit! Strident nationalism has no place in ... oh, ummm, yes it does.

Another late entry, the boys from Old Fitzroy have decided to enter, they are singing the clubs theme song, the tune is the French National Anthem. They are looking good in the red and blue and are playing keeping the ball off the mascot who is dressed as a lion.

Yep, just like Bargain Hunt.

I am pleased that Malta got through in That Other Contest. I thought she was wonderful, and stunning too. Also liked the rock boys from Cyprus.

And I still think we're safe - even the delicious Russia wasn't as good as I expected - and they are the favourites.

Jumping ahead to the logical conclusion, that we win, we will have to choose a co-host for next year so it can be held in Europe. Who should that be? It would be hilarious to choose Ireland after Graham Norton's (he the host for BBC) comments that Australia doesn't belong in Eurovision. That would be great - the only way Ireland gets to host it is if we win.

Oh, the Renault adverts... I love my Renault. That French bulldog who moves her ears when the gears change is adorable, I think I need me one of them.

Our Toby just did a silent interview backstage. Such fun.

I'll co-hoast, I'm sure I can find a stunning blue sparkling dress and grow a beard. I think we'll make Aldwych outside the High Commission a part of the Commonwealth of Australia for the weekend and have a big old fashioned street party.
