I have been waiting for quite a while now for my GP to put me in touch with a group but to no avail. Am going to c her again next week but have lost faith again. What state are you in? Perhaps we here in SA dont have enough groups available. Doing it tough right now, was all ready and excited to move forward with this therapy and feel quite deflated right now. Trying to do it alone knowing more about this disorder but finding it very wearing and tiring trying to keep myself in check all the time. Especially because I think I have just become a 'yes' person to try and avoid any confrontation or upset. Very difficult....thankyou for your reply and good luck

I have been diagnosed with BPD and am now looking for support and others that are struggling with this disorder? The name itself has me reeling and at the moment as I digest this and read about it I feel even more crazy than every but the worst part is I just want to crawl in a hole and hide from the world feeling like I have a second head or something disfiguring or a big blurb of "LUNIE" for everyone to see. I have been living this hell for as long as I can remember and even now knowing there is really something and not just my imagination is stretching me to my limits. I have read on here about people who have to live with someone with this disorder how difficult it is and how so many of u feel useless and just sometimes want to throw the towel iin and that also has upset me as I now know what people who deal with me have to cope with. Anyone out there who is dealing with this or any groups I can go to would be greatly be happy to hear from. It really is living hell but to be able to connect to someone else who may understand may just make me feel not quiet so alone on this roller coaster ride to hell. catwomen

Hi BPD welcome to beyond blue forums

The mere fact that you have sought help, accepted your diagnosis and are seeking opinion and advice makes you a winner, someone that will progress and recover somewhat.

That is far better than my mother that never did any of that above and left her children with other mental illnesses due to her denial.

Good luck. I hope others chip in here to inform you more. Keep reading to, knowledge will benefit you.

Hi Cat Woman, pretty sure your diagnosis isn't your name nor should it define you 😉

May partner was diagnosed with BPD a couple of years ago... Definitely know of the ups and downs.

I just wanted to reassure you that although the peaks and troughs can be pretty intense and feel out of control, there's more than just hope etc. My partner has been having great personal success via DBT and as her guy I can't speak highly enough of the program. Definitely check out google and some Marsha Linehan YouTube videos.

Try not to take on board too much of the negative babble out there.

Hi there!

My advice is don't get too wound up in labels - you're a person and labels shouldn't define us as humans are far too complex. We're all different so be proud of who you are (as for me, I have Generalised Anxiety Disorder and I'm highly sensitive - I would be say I'm kind, a good listener, very cheeky, strong (emotionally but not so much physically) and hyperactive at times haha!)

You are getting support and help - l would be very proud of that as that takes courage. Accept what you can't change or control and focus on what you can.

Enjoy your beautiful children (they love you as you are). You just need to be you and if you can do that then you are well placed to enjoy life.

Cheers,

Pippa

Dear Catwoman,

Hi. I too suffer from BPD, depression, stress, PTSD and who knows what else, but like others have mentioned here, they are disorders like diabetes, cancer or what ever. The title does not define who you are!

Are you close to a library? There are some great books available on BPD. One I bought myself is Borderline Personality Disorder for Dummies. I really don't like the "For Dummies" bit but that is just the name of the brand, like How to cook an egg for Dummies sort of thing.

You have a diagnosis now, so you can work on your issues and move forward. Learn all you can about this condition and decide to work on changes you want to make.

Keep telling your children you love them, and if you do happen to make mistakes or feel like you have upset them unnecessarily, then have a chat with them and apologise.

Try to make the most of the time you do have with your children. I'm not sure what you all do as a family already, but try to make more fun times together so your children have those special memories of their childhood.

I've no idea where you live, but you could all go to the beach and make sand castles, buy some balls and go to a park, fly a kite, bake biscuits and take them to an old folks home, or start a little vegie garden.

You have a diagnosis, you have a condition called BPD, you have something to work on, you can make a difference in your life and in that of your family!

All the best to you, cheers for now from Mrs. Dools (Lauren)

bpd, my wife has borderline and while it can be tough going, there are times when I see the woman I fell in love with.

As mentioned by others, the best thing is you know and you have made the decision to handle it. I know how low those lows can go and often over what you looking back or someone else might see as little things, the same with the highs.

Wishing you all the best in your journey.

Hi Catwoman. I also suffer from BPD. I like the label, it actually made me feel less odd because there are so many other odd people just like me! I take medication, I find it helps me be more stable, it has changed my life. I have never thought about going to a BPD group. I don't like taking about my illness face to face with people... but I will how this forum thing goes (first post!). Anyway, you are not alone. In fact, you are in pretty good company.

Thank you Roosterchips. I have been in treatment for major depressive/anxiety disorder and ADD since 1995. I was diagnosed with BPD three months ago. I had a vague understanding of the condition prior to diagnosis however I am now in the process of aquiring as much info as I can. I have been seeing a very good psychiatrist weekly since 2001 but I had no idea there were BPD support groups. I have only just found out about DBT. I wanted to thank you for mentioning the Marsha Linehan videos on YouTube. Again, I had no idea of the availability of this information. My diagnosis was a little overwhelming and I'm very grateful for any direction to helpful resources. Many thanks.
