dear RedJam, hello and it's great that you have decided to post, and it would be curious to know how long you have been
brooding on whether to post or not, anyway you have and that's a start.
Working for a business, family or not, does seem to disinterest you in wanting to meet new people.
Are you able to take some holidays to go back home just to see if there are any jobs available for you, and if there is
then this may change your entire frame of mind, even so you do need to see your doctor, and if you prefer you could see
a doctor which none of your family visit, although all <G data-gr-id="33" id="33" class="gr_ gr_33 gr-alert gr_spell ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace">consulations</G> are supposed to be kept private, but if you live
in a small town then this may not be possible.
Any help from everybody on this site is certainly welcomed, because we all have different experiences through life, so
any help is much appreciated. Geoff.

Hi, I am a new member. I've been battling my depression and anxiety for a while. Im currently living with my family interstate, away from all my friends back home. I have always struggled to meet new people, and I know that my lack of a social life and the isolation is a big contributor to my health problems. Im working for the family business, dealing with products that I am not passionate about or interested in. The job is what has kept me interstate for so long, and I don't know what I would do for work if I quit to go back home.

That's just a quick summary about where I am at right now. I have not sought professional help until now, and Im about to get in contact with someone from the Beyond Blue team. Hopefully I can get back on track, and even lend help to others here.

Welcome to the Beyond Blue forums RedJam88. You can have hope that you will get back on track, especially as you are doing something about it. You have started on your journey of recovery, well done, persist on a mental health plan and you will come to much more happiness and calmness.

Recently I was reminded of the value of positive self talk, it's worth being aware of what you say to your self. I too 'struggled to meet new people' and I changed my self talk to 'I love meeting new people', at the least it reduced my anxiety and I developed a healthier positive attitude when meeting new people. And I guess you may not be passionate about the products your business produces but I hope you can be passionate and proud about your family business. In terms of getting back home, planning is key. What are you passionate about? What ambitions do you have and can you start to research and develop your career options in between your current job?

It might help to keep your concerns separate, even write them down on paper, start to build goals and plans to achieve your goals in each area, small steps each day. Tonight, thank your self for having the courage to get the ball rolling, you did it, you are a bit closer to where you want to be, you will get there. I hope you keep in touch.
