What age did you get engaged to your wife?

When did you meet?

Did you go to the same school?

Did you go the same uni, college or TAFE or even high school?

At least you're under 25 years old.

You can try to redo some of the social mistakes you've made.

You can read a book like Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird.

You can go the local council and do artwork with old people. Apparently woodworking or ceramics is all the rage.

You could even leave the house go for a brisk walk in the park near where you live and blast music from the late 1980s.

Remember...you're still young!

I am 23 years old. I am not 14 years old. My birthday is on June the 13th 2002. On a Thursday at literally midnight.

I am so old to the point that EVERY PERSON I HATED FROM Prep to Year 12 has at least one double degree and they're married with kids.

Good evening to everyone. My name is Adam and I’ve recently started struggling with things again. I had a rather long period after a marriage breakdown etc, and it took me a while to accept that I wasn’t going well back then. Thankfully, this time I realised that the light was beginning to fade and I wasn’t going to be left alone in the darkness. I have great support around me and I’ve found wonderful professional help. I’m wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience where they realised that they were beginning to slip away and knew to seek help straight away?

Hello Adam,

Welcome back to the forums. It sounds like you have done well reaching out for help from your network, although I am sorry to read of your struggles with depression again.

I have found that reaching out for help as soon as I notice the signs is vital to keeping going. I hope you will continue to reach out here and elsewhere, and good luck with everything.

Hi Adam

It's definitely something to be proud of, becoming more conscious. As a 55yo gal, I can vouch for the fact it can take weeks, months, years or even decades to become more conscious of certain things. As long as we get there, that's the main thing. Becoming more conscious of the tipping point or the beginning of that plunge into darkness is definitely a game changer in life.

Gaining a greater sense of emotions is just one aspect when it comes to 'waking up'. Not sure whether you can relate but I've found the biggest game changer of all relates to inner dialogue. Whether it's our 'inner sage' vs our 'inner saboteur' or it's that 'devil on one shoulder' vs 'the angel on the other', we can call it what we will. Knowing the right inner dialogue to listen to in that battle can make all the difference. For example 'You need to tough it out. Only weak people would seek help under these circumstances' vs 'You're not weak, you're exhausted. It's time to look for a guide and much needed support'. If the truth is we are exhausted and we do need a guide while feeling completely and utterly lost in life, becoming fully conscious of the truth is what dictates the right direction. Based on personal experience, I have to say that the deeper I go into a depression the more caught up in the lies (of inner dialogue) I become and boy can that dialogue become incredibly depressing and misguiding, continuing to take me in the wrong direction (toward rock bottom). External dialogue, from people who are going to steer us right direction becomes an absolute must at times.

I'm so glad to hear you're graduating upwards through the right support and guidance, while becoming more conscious of trusting your feelings. I find that with every level of consciousness we graduate to, there comes the opportunity to develop an ability. Whether that ability relates to being able to better feel our way through life, better hear our way through life (with the right inner dialogue) or better see our way through life based on imagining the best ways forward, it's kind of like a gift or reward for all our hard work. How to seriously develop such abilities is a whole other story.
