Anyone else on here dealing with the same issues as me?

Both my husband and I work remotely. He works Monday to Friday and I work on a 6 on, 6 off roster. We get maybe 2 or 3 days per month together.

I’m fairly new at my work so all the friendship groups are already formed. The younger crowd all hang out together and those in my age group live locally so have their own lives and friends.

I feel really isolated from everything and everyone. I’m working in the mines so that we can buy a house but it feels more like a prison sentence than a life.

How do you cope with this lifestyle?...tips to staying sane when on shift would be much appreciated

Hi CatLady1110

Thanks for reaching out, we appreciate you posting!

The Covid-19 situation has made difficult situations even more challenging for a lot of people; you aren't alone in that. Feelings of isolation, boredom or unhappiness about your life circumstances are valid- but there are plenty of ways to tackle it. The online space is a great way to start- you can use this thread to find more community. If work isn't giving you much opportunities to socialise, could you Facetime your partner or other family and friends? Or join an online interest group or social media page? That way you can be engaged in some way no matter where works takes you.

Let us know how you are travelling if you like,

Hi Tay....thanks for your reply.

I do keep in touch daily with my husband via text messages. We’ve moved towns recently so don’t really have any friends as yet.

I have joined a local yoga group in the hope of making new friends

Hi CatLady1110

Yoga sounds fun... any other clubs you might like? Boosting the amount of positive distraction might help, maybe? It might also help you make friends!

Does your town or local council have a local facebook or even an Instagram page? People post jobs, neighbourhood watch and sales on there- but there are a lot of social stuff there too. Right now, a lot of things you might find on there may be about coping with isolation/covid-19 stuff. Would that be something that interests you?
