Hi Sarah, I’m a mature (in my 50’s) age student. I was running my own business and studying part time. I now have part time employment and study part time. I too have found study isolating. I find there’s pressure to spend any spare minutes doing something study-wise. I struggle with this a lot and I don’t have children at home to look after! Some time back though I realised my mental health is also important and without that I can’t study or do my every day stuff. Social contact is important for my wellbeing and so it needs to happen, even if it is coffee with a friend once a month.

Hi Everybody,

I joined for the first time today, as I found this to be a really helpful forum.

Just wanting to get advise and see if anyone's in the same position as me.

Im a Mom, musician and student, battling my way through my depression & anxiety. (recently diagnosed with epilepsy)

Studying full time, Im doing gigs on the side casual, while carrying the weight of looking after kids and living in a blended family.

I literally have no friends because im always doing assessments or learning new songs.

There are no Moms at Uni and it feels social isolating ,and I feel like my partner does not understand.

Is anybody else going through this?

Than you

Hi.

Welcome to beyond blue.

Not sure if it was a similar position but I was working full time from home, studying part-time and being dad and cooking etc. Long story short - I never really got out. other things just got in the way.

It sounds like you also have a lot to deal with which also shows an inner strength that you are able to do all that.

I would use music as a distraction - listening to it. Guess if you are playing music it might not work the same way.

What do you use as distractions and for coping?

It can be hard to talk to your partner when they don't really understand how you can feel. You might look ok on the outside but otherwise grumpy or down.

Feel free to chat with me if you want. I can listen and read and reply. But I learnt that to keep it inside doesn't help.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for replying. You sound as busy as me. I know there is a light at the end of the tunnel I just have to keep going with my studies.

How did you cope with such a bust schedule?
