Hi JP,

Welcome to the forums, and thank you for your bravery and openness in sharing here. It’s a really good place to have come to hear from others who understand what you’re going through. We can hear how difficult the past few months have been, we’re so sorry that’s been going on.

It sounds like you’ve taken some really good steps in going to the hospital and seeing the GP about this. Has the GP offered you any further support? If you’re not sure what you’re next steps are, or just want to talk through what you’re feeling right now, we’d highly recommend calling the Beyond Blue Support Line on 1300 22 4636. The counsellors there are super kind and supportive, they’re understanding and can be good to talk to right in the midst of the anxiety symptoms. You can also reach them via Online Chat here (11am-midnight AEDT).

As you can see from Purple_Butterfly’s lovely response, our community will be able to relate to a lot of what you’ve been going through and be able to share some of the wisdoms that have helped them. Here’s some pages from around the Beyond Blue site that you might like to look at:

Thanks again for sharing. We’re here to listen and offer support, and you never know how your story might help someone else.

Hi everyone my name is JP, I am a newbie on here I have been suffering with Depression and Anxiety for the past 10 years, but never to this extent, It all started on the 9 August 21, I went to bed as usual at about 10.30 pm, it took me about 3 hours to get to sleep, I got up at 4.00 am , feeling Anxious, nauseated, agitated, cold and hot flushes, dry mouth, short on breath, heart palpitations, no appetite and on edge all day , I was exhausted………. I am averaging 3 hours of sleep a week if that,I can’t sleep whatsoever, I am going crazy, last week I admitted myself to hospital I was there for 7 hours , they did all sort of tests and all results came up as normal, my GP said it was Anxiety, it’s been over 3 month now and don’t know how to stop this horrible feeling, I am still suffering, I can’t keep going like this!!! I am so depressed , I am scared to go to bed every night😔.

i am hoping someone can tell me what else to do, or if someone is having the same problem

hope to hear from you soon

You are not alone in this at all. I couldn't sleep and I went on medication and it helped so much. Talking to your GP about your concerns you should do as well maybe finding a therapies/ psych. reach out to others for support. you are not alone and so many people suffer with Anxiety and Deprssion. Sleeping as well make adjusments to times and activites beforehand.

Hi Jonathan66,

Wellcome to our forums!

Im sorry you are feeling this way.

I understand that anxiety can be difficult to deal with I suffered with severe anxiety OCD and I have now recovered thanks to the professional help I received.

When I first saw my gp with my symptoms my doctor advised I had anxiety… at the time I thought I was going crazy… my gp put me on a antidepressant to help me to manage my anxiety and we did a mental health plan together.

Have you done a mental health plan with your gp?

I also saw a clinical psychologist and a psychiatrist this then led me to a clinical that specialised in OCD.

By doing you mental health plan this will enable you to see a psychologist who can give you many strategies for anxiety.

Your not alone

Hi JP

I'm also new to these forums, this is actually my first post. I suffer from GAD. I am currently going through an episode and trying desperately to recover. I know exactly how you feel, it's a horrible oppressive sensation. What I've learned is that sleep is incredibly important to recover. Based on what you say I think that you really need help to get you to sleep well every day. Did the Dr's in hospital gave you something? Otherwise discuss with your GP to give you something. You may need to go to a psychiatrist if you haven't already. Therapies and strategies will only help once you feel a bit better and more stable, otherwise you won't have the strength and headspace to do it. Sleep will def help you. Please seek professional help.
