Hi Rusty girl,

This seems like a good place to start, so welcome 🙂 Personally I think inner critics are over-rated. Mine hasn't been very helpful at all, so I don't give it too much time. Anyway, life could get boring if we said the right things all the time.

Everyone here seems really friendly and helpful, so I reckon just be you. Hope to catch you around.

Cheers,

Hello I am new here. I am not sure where to start but first off my name is rustic because I am old and feel stupid. I have had major depression anxiety and a form if agoraphobia for years. I am on meds so tho k I should be ok but every now and then do and say stupid things and end up putting people off side. I am sick of my inner critic tell g me I am stupid and saying wrong words. how can I stop my stupid thoughts from happening. I am sorry if I don't make sense.

Hi Rusty, I'm new here too. I'm sure you're neither old or stupid. Everyone, even "normals" put people offside on a regular basis!!! The inner critic is a bitch, but you have to be the bigger hardass and tell her to 'get back in her box'. XX

Hi Rusty Girl

Welcome too and good on you for having the courage to post!

Bill is spot on in his post above where inner-critics are concerned (thanks Bill for the great post too!)

I understand you Rusty....especially with the anguish you have been going through...and yes chronic anxiety and depression are an awful place to be in....absolutely. I used to have chronic anxiety...which was followed by clinical depression (which is under management and.....GP's...Meds)

There is nothing stupid about you in any way.........Strong...Yes....proactive...Yes!

Just a note about the forums if I may...

they are rock solid secure and safe place to post

they are also non judgemental.....we provide the best support we can

if we didnt have new members.....the forums wouldn't exist....your input is appreciated Rusty Girl!

you are not alone here.....I really hope you can post back.....any questions are welcome 🙂

my kind thoughts

Hi Rustic girl, can I welcome you to the <G class="gr_ gr_29 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation multiReplace" id="29" data-gr-id="29">forums.</G>

Just because you feel old doesn't make you feel stupid, I'm old as well, but having depression and anxiety creates another platform that we stand on and able to function on, but it's different to what we would normally want it to be.

Sometimes your mind can start to think of someone or anything which begins with all sorts of thoughts for that particular person but can take you in a negative direction, these can make you believe what you are thinking as being true.

Try not to let them wander into the direction you don't want them to, because that's the power that depression has over us and try not to think about what you can't control, because if you do it takes you on a tangent you don't want to go.

If you can't do anything about it then counselling will help you, write what you have achieved, not what you haven't been able to, <G class="gr_ gr_590 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="590" data-gr-id="590">because</G> these <G class="gr_ gr_593 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del" id="593" data-gr-id="593">maybe</G> too powerful to handle by yourself.

There could be times when you want to think or do something you want to do, but you let this unwanted thought sneak in and take control, try and learn to have the power to stop them, medication and counselling would be a great asset.

Good to hear back from you if you can.

Geoff.

Hi Rusty Girl

Welcome to the forum.I am new also.Firstly i think you do make sense.Alot of what you are saying is familiar to me I have a habit of sticking up for the underdog quite often at my own expense. Its not easy doing the right thing.I get angry sometimes too and snap at people but most of the time i hold back so as not to expodde.Having self control is important but can be frustrating.I am not on medication at the moment.Self medicating coffee, cigarettes avoiding alcohol because it'won't help me to have any more addictions. I feel stupid sometimes my kids make me feel stupid, sometimes it's my workmates but nobody on this forum makes me feel stupid so it's nice to have somewhere to go where we feel ok.

Kind regards

Mark

Hello Geoff
Thank you for insight. It is very helpful. I guess am so used to being negative I forget to consider what I have achieved. I have had sessions with a psychologist and did help a bit as she gave me explanation about depression. I do journaling and mostly negative stuff but have managed to put in two positive entries. I now just take one day at a time.

thanks again for your post. it's good to be able to vent without being judged.

Hello Mr Magoo

Thanks so much for your input. I am glad my comments made sense and that you can relate to my thoughts. I have been very critical of myself for so long that's why I wrote I feel stupid. sounds like you are too harsh on yourself too. this place sounds good place to share thoughts with like minded people. hope you enjoy your time here.
